Anyone else think the Cobra V is OP?!

FDev have noted that the new generation of ships benefit from the technological advances of years which puts them, on balance, slightly ahead of the old ship designs

MkV perhaps even more than the others, but the Mandalay is also a significant upgrade over anything else for exploration, etc

So, OP by design for in-game reasons (and for out of game reasons too) :)

Your answer could be here.
Aside from the agility of the Cobra V it's internals are bigger than some mediums...

Well, I know those pre-turns were certainly OP... and here I thought Operation IDA was all about trading and station repairs... You guys are absolutely brutal in ship combat. GG's

That's a different IDA. We're the independent defence agency. We used to be an anti gank squad. These days were mostly bgs. But we still have Cmdrs who can pew pew.

I don't think it's overpowered in combat. I mean, maybe it's overpowered when fighting NPCs in other small ships, but you still aren't going to take down a master-ranked NPC in an Anaconda. Well, at least not in any reasonable amount of time. The medium hardpoints limit how much damage you can output.

(I actually made myself a multipurpose build with the MkV in order to do PP2 missions, for which purpose it's just superb. And while it's extremely capable in combat against other small and even medium vessels, I quickly started just skipping those dangerous+ level Anacondas. Just not worth the time. It's like 10 minutes of combat-grinding, emptying your entire ammo stock on one single ship. Just not worth it.)

Did you watch the vid?

You have to be trolling.

i made one with 5 X Enforcer cannons (all class 1 weapons)
was able to get the power using Armored PP grade 5 + monstered
killed an anaconda with it. i think was deadly

having set G5 dirty drive, drag drive, controlling the beast with fixed weapons was impossible. a slight move of the mouse and i was aiming across the screen way past my target. i had to set mouse sensitivity waaaaay down to approximately 15% ... (hit Esc, controls, ship controls, +mouse controls, mouse sensitivity). after that i could keep targets under my reticule

all enforcers had short range G5 (4500 is stock range, so half the range get double damage)
2 enforcers had incendiary experimental
1 had corrosive experimental
2 had oversized experimental

boost speed is around 625 to 630

class 4 biweave with reinforced G5
2 0A boosters G5 1 heavy / 1 resistances with thermo block

1A military armor with lightweight G5
has a guardian hull reinforcement and a regular size 2D hull reinforcment
the regular hull reinforcement is G5 to get the resistances up

it is challenging. part of the challenge is G5 on all the modules. another part is learning fixed weapons.

attempting with an out of the box cobra mk v would be a bad idea

Engineering is not a challenge - it's a matter of taking the time to gather the materials.

Learning fixed weapons is unnecessary. Fun, but unnecessary.

face it. you could engineer most ships to kill an NPC anaconda. i dont know how you can prove that the Mk5 is somehow advantaged lol

As a small ship fan I’m thankful for the addition of the Cobra V.

It’s superior in nearly every category to other small ships. In that respect it might be seen as overpowered, but if the goal is to attract more new players to the game, the Cobra V is an ideal ship.

I’m hopeful that down the road we see a DBS MkII; that would be fun.

We don't disagree.

I don't see how you can't think it isn't.

Try the same in a Viper Mk. III or a Cobra Mk. III. Sure, you'll win - it will just be harder work and take longer. The Cobra Mk. V is quite clearly the best small-pad ship in the game. Its DPS and insane manoeuverability makes that a certainty.
