Horizons Anyone else using a Keelback?

I tried using a Keelback for piracy!
I saw that it could have the same weapons and defence as my Cobra, but with much more cargo space for loot.
Then I discovered its "agility"... and sold it pretty soon after!

I had a really good time using the Keelback for mining. It fits a class 2 mining laser, has good cargo capacity and has plenty of power for a decent defensive setup for mining in and around a HRES. I was making > 1million credits a trip, selling to my local commodities market.

That's a good idea, I was thinking about trying mining out soon - I might just give it a go in a Keelback. Thanks! :)

I begin to love it... :)
For planetary mission running, and small del. missions it's just great, and has a very unique feeling.
Using this loadout:

Even survived an interdiction (NPC) of a wing sporting a Cobra MKIV and 2 Adders.
Was down to 68%, but killed them all.
Btw., i just freaking love DF Missiles...
:D

the kind of compromises needed on a Keelbabk don't affect its speed much, so military arm or and PSG weight doesn't hurt the way it might on another ship you're trying to squeeze more thrust or jump range out of

I've been flying it a lot as of late. While it's still fairly gimp for it's price (as it's balanced for 2.2's launchable fighters), it *feels* amazing! I love the look, I love the sounds, I love how the whole ship shakes when thrusting up or down, I love the cockpit. I have a Python for trading and mining, and I have a Federal Gunship (another fighter bay ship) for bounty hunting in RESes, but the Keelback is what I use when I just feel like flying around. Also, it seems to be VERY stable for flying around planetary surfaces. Wobbles a lot less than most ships in my experience.

Here is my current build with her:

While I'm *hoping* that the launchable fighter won't use an internal slot in 2.2, I suspect it will, just like the SRV does.

If necessary, you can drop the ADS assuming the Interstellar Vehicle Hanger is also a size 2 and rely on the Nav Beacons for mission updates. I'm using one in a very similar setup for general mission running, just fun to use.

Actually I suspect the ship hanger will need to be bigger than size 2. Look at the vehicle hanger under the Keelback. Then look at the launch bay behind it.

The Keelback is good as a cheap mining ship. It really needs some love from Frontier before it's at least descent with anything else, particularly an improvement in maneuverability IMO. How does a ship with MORE maneuvering engines have less maneuverability is beyond me.

But for mining and short cargo hauls in civilized space, it isn't that bad. In most cases, it's just tough enough to last long enough defending yourself for the cops to arrive and help you. Usually securing some extra cash in a bounty or two.
