Anyone got an Alt to scan the new station in Stuemeae FG-Y d7561 ?

Interesting ... it's got five democracy factions, but two of them are currently in Civil War - that means that at least one of the democracies in the system is an atypical one, which is extremely rare.

Could someone docked there check the pinned local news articles for each faction, and say what the "thanks its supporters" message at the bottom of the article is for each one, please?

The *known* options are...
Social Democracy: "The union's supporters are to be congratulated for their continued loyalty. Long live the confederacy!" (this is the normal one that >99.9% of democracies are)
Corporate Democracy: "The organization's supporters are to be congratulated for their continued loyalty. Together, we will propel the corporation to even greater heights."
Authoritarian Democracy: "The party thanks their supporters for their continued loyalty. Long live the regime."
Criminal Democracy: "The group's leaders thank their soldiers for their continued loyalty. Together, we will propel the coalition to even greater heights."

Transorbital Dynamics : Corporate Democracy
Dawnlight Core Mining Operations : Social Democracy
Mishka Corp. : Corporate Democracy
The Order of Imagination : Social Democracy

Interesting - hadn't come across that! o7

Thanks.

Atypicals are exceptionally rare in the bubble and generally only occur when the government of a faction has been changed after its creation, so you could play the game for years and never notice one. In Colonia about a quarter of factions are atypical in various directions, so it's possible to study exactly which effects are dependent on government, and which are dependent on this hidden "type".

Nice to see Transorbital Dynamics there. They were the placeholder name I used when writing the CG proposal. A (once fictional) NPC corp who commissioned the station!

I checked that system yesterday on the galaxy map (about 19:00 game time) and I saw that it has a population of 750.000. That number appears really high to me. Where are these people hiding?

Guess now we know what happened to all the surplus funds from the CG - paid for a full-blown colonization!

Think about it.. Thousands of spaceships of all kinds travelling to the center of the galaxy! Building a station for future generations ;) The furthest mankind has ever colonized..! Will be an epic CG i bet..

And only 750,000 had moved into the system before we arrived. Feel the impact of our actions on the evolving background of the galaxy...

Three quarters of a million people and a functioning democratic colony already there? Makes the whole station building thing feel a bit redundant to me.

I don't know if there's any actual cause-and-effect connection, but I would *like* to think that the colonists' surprising numbers and progress are due to the overwhelming success of the first DW CG. But they forgot the station didn't establish a shipyard yet, so they need us to come do some mining for them so they can finish the job.

From Inara. Are there really THREE player minor factions already at the new station? How is that possible??

There's no automated or in-game way to determine whether a faction is a PMF or not, so sites mainly have to guess and can be wrong. I doubt any of the factions there are actually PMFs, but the unusual names may be making some auto-guess feature think that they are.

That said, the only meaningful distinction between a PMF and any other faction is that you can't request a new PMF gets added to a system which already has a PMF present ... and as other rules mean you couldn't request a PMF at this system anyway, it really doesn't matter if they are or not.

Construction workers, their families, dogs, uncles and aunties and a few people who were hitch-hiking around Barnards Star... Plus the Pizza & Kebab vendors and their families, for a project this big I'd say it was under-staffed :p

you can craft your own limpets with super common mats

Synthesizing enough limpets for a laser-mining CG would be a logistical masterpiece given how fast they kill themselves. It would dramatically slow down the progress. Don't think that Frontier has that in mind.

Well I hope they add restock before the cg or limpets might just become the new void opals :D

you can craft your own limpets with super common mats

Well this got me thinking. Time is the ultimate currency in this game, goes the wisdom on the forum. So in the (I think unlikely) event that restock isn't available for the CG, what would the exchange rate be?

In the comparison below, let's presume the necessary scouting has already been done, so you know exactly where to go to harvest each.

Limpets: need 10 iron and 10 nickel to synth 4 limpets. Both are tier-1 mats, so probably best to bookmark a planet with high iron/nickel percentages and a large number of geo sites (maybe something like Stuemeae GG-Y c8714 1). Someone would have to remind me of the refresh time for geosite drops, but it's long enough you'd want several for farming. Given how dense the core is, there will undoubtedly be one within one jump. I'd guess about a minimum of 3-4 minutes from jump-in to landing at a surface site on a close-in planet. If you're quick with the SRV I'd guess you could mine out the piceous cobbles in 5-ish minutes, and (with large variance) ballpark 10 Ni, 20 Fe. So that's roughly 10 minutes work for four limpets. The next four will be slightly cheaper, since you just have to hop to the next geosite, until you exhaust that system. Let's round down to 2 minutes per limpet as an optimistic rate to target.

Void opals or other core mining resource requires finding and cracking a motherlode asteroid. Again, given the density of the core, there's probably a hotspot for the material you want within jump range of the CG system. Opals will tend to be a bit farther from the star, but you can approach rings faster. Although let's rule out emergency dropping, since if we don't have restock we probably also don't have repair services yet. So I'd call it 2-3 minutes from jumping to arriving at a (already mapped) hotspot. Experienced core miners are reporting they can reliably pull around 90-120 t/hr of core materials, which works out to cracking say 5-8 asteroids per hour. So you're looking at about 12 minutes work on the low end to first opals, but once you're going it's possible to approach 2 t per minute.

So given that time is money, if you just need a single synth of limpets it's slightly less work than getting a single unit of void opals. But if you wanted to pay someone in void opals to bring you bulk limpets, the appropriate exchange rate would actually be around four void opals per limpet. Pricey! (And questionably sustainable - you'd be doing well to bring in 4t of core resources per limpet spent on mining unless you do manual scooping.)

For iron/nickel, geosites are a very long way from optimal, as you only get three from each Piceous Cobble, once the site's done it's done, and they don't have that many cobbles to start with.

Go to a metal-rich world, and just drive around shooting up all the bronzite chondrite, rocky outcrops, etc. you find, and you can easily get 10-12 iron/nickel per outcrop, if not more, without having to stop-start every few to fly to a completely different part of the planet.

Geosites are great for the high-rarity minerals because they provide a guaranteed source of a few of them, whereas you might drive around for 15 minutes without finding a single high-end meteorite if you get unlucky. But for the basics, general surface prospecting is better.

If you're laser mining, you can synthesis from the iron/nickel you get from that as well. It won't provide an indefinite supply of limpets, but it'll probably provide enough to double your starting load, which may affect exchange rates.
