Anyone had a tip off?

Hi there,

This is not what spawns Tip Off messages... I've not previously given away the secrets so I'm tempted to let it stay a mystery for now...

As for the timer, I don't remember Dav speaking about a the non-station missions, but I did in my Q&A just before christmas.

Staying in a game area, undocked, in a populated system, for 15 minutes will trigger a call for a mission. You won't necessarily get one, nor will you necessarily know you've got one. The request will go out, though.

Most of these missions are hidden to start with and just subtly manipulate the game world around you by spawning ships or USS events. Once you've performed an pertinent action, you get an inbox message with further details.

Hope this helps,
Dom

Hi there,

I go wherever New Posts takes me.

It's not a perfect system but most of the forums it excludes are dark, shadowy places run by Scar and the hye... I mean bug forums and such which are covered by QA...

Hakuna matata,
Dom

haha..

Well, thank you anyway..

Its still a mystery though, but i totally love the inbox missions.. Specially the tip offs..

Hi there,

The mystery of tip off messages is seriously more interesting than the reality. I don't want to spoil it for you.

Thanks,
Dom

I've followed two scanning tip-offs, neither of which had anything to scan at the location (and yes I tried swapping latitudes and longitudes), so I delete them as soon as I get them now. I'm not wasting time on them any more.

Shame, because the last one I received led me to a crashed Anaconda, and my friends found a really cool looking ship graveyard on some planet a few weeks ago :)

Looking at the message, which is exactly the same as one I received and deleted the other night, makes me wonder if the points of interest disappear as soon as the first person visits them. I can't think of another reason for there being nothing at the end of them all the time.

Ah, that may be true actually... If that's the case, it's a bit lame :(

The POI should stay and you just should not be able to scan the site for data, but still enjoy the find.

Hi there,

There should always be something at the tip-off locations (if visited while they're active).

If you've found one which appears empty it would be appreciated if you could report this as a bug so the team can investigate.

Also they don't disappear when somebody visits them. I *believe* (though it's been a while since I had to touch anything to do with them as they're largely the web and content team's domain) that there is a rotating pool of locations and they stick around for two weeks and we give out tip-offs for them within the first week before activating the next set. So they're not permanent, but they're also not particularly short-lived.

Thanks,
Dom

That's some great info there, thanks Dom!

Here's one I got the other day for ya'll. Too far out of my way for me.

That's the same one I got and posted before. I wonder if you got it at the same time I did too... Hmmm the plot thickens...

Maybe a dastardly scheme to get cmdrs to compete and meet up at the site... they're either playing cupid, or Dr Evil, or both!

Or none of the above. Anything you'd care to admit to though Dom? ;)

Hi there,

[Edit] To be clear, no, it's not meant to be a competitive feature... I think there is some geographical check when deciding which of the active sites to present to you, but we're not trying to make you fight each other, we just trying to find an active site near you instead of one on the other side of the world...

Thanks,
Dom

They're usually wrecks with data points, in the one's I've visited, but the one in Nguna seems weird. It takes you to an installation. Can you confirm that that is what's intended, Dom?

Hi there,

I think Steve is in charge of those, so he may be able to shed more light than me. I'll try to remember to ask him tomorrow.

Thanks,
Dom

Hi all,

Can anyone furnish me with a screenshot of the nguna tip off message so we can investigate further?

We're pretty sure that there isn't meant to be a location in Nguna so we may be experiencing thargoid interference...

Thanks,
