Hardware & Technical Anyone upgrading their hardware?

Greetings commanders,

I am playing the game on a 2010 HP laptop (and it is still very playable indeed).
I would like to build a desktop PC where I can finally play the game at full resolution and I have only bought the case so far (a stunning Corsair Graphite Series 600T).
Anyone upgrading their own rack and willing to sell their old stuff to a fellow commander? PSUs, motherboards, CPUs, GPUs, RAM and so on?

Thanks!

I don't have anything to sell but I am considering going SLI again for that 4k sweetness. I was the idiot that bought dual titans and one fried. Since they were overclocked they didn't carry good warranties and now I have to decide if I want to drop the money on another.

I may just be upgrading my controls though. I'm using a xbox controller since my last flightstick died and my fund dried up due to a new baby arriving.

Good luck on building a desktop, its way more fun building a rig than buying a pre-made one.

I'll be rebuilding at somepoint but perhaps not just yet, i'm waiting for the newer DDR4 mobos to become more mainstream, plus I want the extra PCIE lanes on the CPU for M2 support etc. I'll probably be building mid next year.

My old kit is ageing rather at this point:

Corsair HX520
Intel i7 920
6bg of 1800ghz DDR3
256gb SSD + RAID1 of 2x 2tb Samsung F1 spinpoints
HD7870 2gb

Greetings commanders,

I'm amazed, I decided to try ED out on my own HP Envy (Intel Core i7 Q720 1.6GHz) with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4830 Series graphics card, and 4GB Ram. Well, hats off to FD, it's completely playable, stable, and I've had no crashes at all.

Good luck with your upgrade Commander :)

My next upgrade will be an sli'd '17.3" Vortex IV Elite SE' around xmas.

I am upgrading my GPU and therefore I will soon have a 2 yr old Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 lying about. PM me if interested.

I'll be getting a 980 at some point in the near future, so i can be sure an oculus would work allright, maybe even at 1440p :)

I got a superclocked EVGA 970 and I must say the performance is staggering given that is is £150 less than the 980.

I am getting on 1080p up to 190 FPS on Elite and I couldn't justify the extra money for 10% more oomph, especially as the card is performing as well as a 780Ti.

I would wonder if it is worth getting 2 970's in SLI for a little bit more than a 980?

I know a few people in the computer trade and am asking if they know of any good places to find second hand parts.

Will post details here.

Apologies if I seemed a little sceptical before.

Good luck.

Got a response. The general opinion is to be rather more careful of people offering newish stuff at bargain prices, than older stuff.

But this site is supposed to be worth a look.

Now I have no experience of this sort of thing myself. The information comes form people I know who work in Computers.

Let us know how you get on.

In the same boat, my system is fairly antique, ready to spend the coin to upgrade. Going to a 1440P monitor and future-proofing as much as I can, here's what I got picked out at The Egg...

Intel Core i7-5820K Haswell-E 6-Core 3.3GHz LGA 2011-v3 140W Desktop Processor BX80648I75820K

I will be re-using the 1T Western Digital HDD I currently have for storage.

Here's where I'm stuck, though. I currently have a GTX770, by far the newest bit of kit on my box, but it's not going to be enough to push 1440P at Ultra by itself.

Since I want to future-proof, I'm not real wild about adding another last gen GPU to the one I have...I'd rather sell the one I have and start over.

...what sayest thou? How much GPU power do I need for 1440P ED @ Ultra settings?

TIA,

NF

Pretty decent rig there! ;)
How much did you spend so far?
And how (little) much would you sell your gtx770 to a desperate fellow commander? :D

This is one of those games that initiates a hardware upgrade.

I'll be starting a path to Intel PCIe 3.0 from an AMD build; mobo/chip, then memory and finally GFX card

By the time I get there, maybe Oculus CV1 will be available

Agreed.

Most of mine is fine, but needing a bigger graphics card. That needs a bigger PSU.

Not sure about Occulous. Nice idea but can see that wife of mine, waiting till I'm totally engrosses then grabbing me or something. If not that I'll take a look at more screens.

My biggest concern now is making sure I get stuff that, should my current MB just not cut it, I can move the stuff over.

Actually, after doing some research all hopped up on coffee, I ended up with this...

Note: Two of the Zotac GTX 970 GPU's in SLI. Outdoes the GTX 780 Ti by a considerable margin, for roughly the same price...unfortunately, out of stock at the moment.

It's a lot of money, but I have many other toys I can sell to pay for it, getting too old to trudge around the mountains chasing elk any damn ways.

I'd be happy to sell you the 770...but are you sure you want to pay the shipping from the west coast of the USA? I recently sent some stuff to my niece in Germany and it cost a fortune to ship:mad:

I'm going to get the monitor and some of the other stuff like the case on the way and wait on the rest for the GPU's to come back into stock.

To be honest, my current system is adequate for playing ED...

...I want way better than adequate, and what the hell, it's only money:D
