Anyone using a GTX 1070 with 3 monitors?

I'm currently running 3 monitors on a first gen GTX970, at 5919x1080. It works pretty well, but I get a fair bit of aliasing artifacts in some situations, e.g. outside of stations where the toaster grill shimmers a fair bit.

I'm wondering if the new 1070 will help with this, and perhaps allow me to use supersampling (which I can't now due to big time frame-rate drops) to tone down the aliasing. Also, I noticed a setting in GeForce Experience for Elite: Nvidia Multi-Frame Sampled Anti-aliasing, but it says it needs a 2nd gen 900 series card - so I haven't turned it on. Not sure if this will help or not. (Edit - seems you need to use MSAA for this?)

I'd really like to get the quality of the graphics up, and am hoping the more powerful 1070 will do the trick... I just can't give up using 3 monitors as it really makes the game more immersive.

Anyone using a similar set up with the 1070?

Thanks

the 1070 should work exactly for what you want. I went from a 970 to a 1080 but i play at 1440p.

Super sampling on 3 monitors will give you something like 8000 X 1600 or even 11000 X 2160

That's too much for a single 1070.

You might be able to squeeze SMAA or some other AA in there, though.

Thanks, can you clarify your last statement?

I was getting 60 in space and mid 40's on planets and high 30's in space stations, at 3 screen 5760x1080 on a 780ti. Settings in ED were all highest except bloom and ss. I was using SMAA. I also had some changes to improve visuals set at the nvida control panel. Any time I set the ss to 1.5, I'd get low 20's in the stations, and didn't feel the visual improvement was worth it.

I now have a 1080 and have moved from W7 to W10. Still on the same setup and game settings otherwise (rest of computer to be upgraded next year when Intel releases an actual upgrade for CPU). I am now getting 60 (Vsync on) everywhere. I have not yet tried to change SS to 1.5 or 2 with the 1080.

I saw that Nvidia does NOT list ED as a game in the MFAA list. So I don't know why in your GEForce exp it's showing it the way you're saying. No clue if it works.

I can try to set it to on, but there's no indication anywhere if it's compatible/working with the game, so I would have no way to report back, unless it looks way better with it on. I have seen a few reviews about MFAA, and am not impressed, and I'm not sure I'd even see a difference in game.

I think to make a decision on the 1070, you'd have to record your fps with your current rig at current settings (space, surface, in station), then try SS at 1.5 just to record the fps. Then look at the % increase the 1070 is supposed to give over your 970 and "do the math". It will probably not work out exactly like the numbers say, but you'd at least have a better idea on making a decision.

*Edit: FWIW, on my system, enabling SS to 1.5 didn't do much to improve the jaggies. 2.0 did, but certainly did NOT rid the UI/panels/station interface of the jaggies. The frame rate hit at 2.0 was 'ok', but I was seeing about 30 in the station, and high 40's when not looking directly ahead in space (60 when looking directly ahead). IMO, nothing will get rid of the awful jaggies in this game, other than running at 4k. Also note, the game has problems in these and other aspect ratios (see 'known issues' list). Perhaps a standard 1920x1080 (instead of 5760x1080) and SS at 2 would get rid of most of the jaggies...but then like you said...hard to give up 3 screens.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. It has been so long since I've used just one monitor, I don't recall if the jaggies were the same as I see on 3 monitors...

Sounds like that's an issue with the graphics in the game regardless? I was hoping the 1070 would improve this, but at this point I'm not too sure. What setting changes did you make in the Nvidia control panel, and did those help?

Thanks again

My single monitor / GTX660 old PC has the shimmering jaggies etc on the toaster grill.
.
For my new PC build I went for a GTX 1070. I'm still using my old monitor @ 1680x1050.
I can now have all graphics settings maxxed out and have x2 super sampling. This virtually gets rid of jaggies with just a few appearing here and there.
FPS rarely goes below 60. Overall I'm pleased with the improvement in graphics and the smoothness.
I'm just hoping this continues when I get a 1920x1080 monitor.

I was on the fence about getting a 1070 or a 1080 but that sounds like I might get a 1070 and later on SLI it. I don't plan on getting a 4k monitor for a loooonnnngggg time.

I use a stock low priced 1080 (MSI Aero) at that resolution on a triple monitors setup : no artifact, constant 60FPS+, everything on ultra but AA is off (I cannot tell the difference when I turn it on anyway). Initially I wanted to wait for the Ti but still this one is doing the job, I suppose I'll stick with it. Should be roughly the same with a 1070 I suppose.

Mine's the standard Nvidia own brand Founders Edition. Other brands are overclocking them so more performance can be gained there.
It does push out quite a bit of heat but the fan is still pretty quiet.

EVGA has a good 1070 that runs cool. Guess I'll be going that route.

Yes, with a 980Ti OC. 2x supersampling causes a significant FPS drop. If you can live with ~30FPS on planets (full details), you might give it a try. 1.5x SS has better performance, but looks worse than native rsolution.
