Anything different about the DSS/Sites exploration mechanic different or bugged?

Greetings, fellow Exploring CMDRs!

I'm going to post this here since this is where us hermit explorers gather and I want to make sure that I'm just not seeing things before I start moaning about another perceived bug without confirming that it is, indeed, a bug and not just me not knowing what I'm talking about (that has been known to happen). Enough moaning going on for very legitimate reasons due to the Upgrade That Shall Not Be Mentioned and its associated bugs. No need for me to add to it if it's just me being a dimwit.

So, that out of the way, my question:

Is there something weird/different about the way the honk/FSS/DSS sequence works now post-patch when it comes to interesting sites (abandoned settlements, crash sites and such)?

The way I remember it, I'd honk, FSS to resolve every object in a system, wait (if necessary) for the scans to refine, head to planets with interesting signals, DSS/map them, and then any interesting locations would show up on my Nav panel for me to lock on to.

Now I find myself honking, FSS'ing, waiting for scans to refine, head to interesting planets, map and then find nothing whatsoever on the Nav panel. When I close on the planet in question, little markers will show up in my HUD which I CAN lock on to, then proceed to enter orbit/glide and then they'll appear on my Nav panel when I get close enough. So it's not like I can't get to them without doing a slow fly-by of the entire planet, I just need to make sure not to move the stick after I've aimed and entered glide. No big deal, really, it just seems to me that this isn't the way it used to work pre-patch.

Fun thing is that Geo/Bio locations on mapped planets DO appear on my Nav panel post-mapping, it's just the "special" sites that don't. I have to move the nose of my ship around manually until they come up and THEN I can lock them.

Again: Was it always this way and I just didn't notice it, or is it yet another bug? If the former, I'll just shut up now and feel silly. :)

Thanks, CMDRs

Once you arrive at a location do you use a dss?
Detailed surface scanner.
With it u fire probes at the planet/moon and once complete fly in closer and you should have it all revealed.?

Managed to miss "Geo/Bio locations on mapped planets DO appear on my Nav panel " and that's all I've seen or expected to see since the last patch

Thanks. I appreciate it. That's why I asked. Criticism based on bugs is fine, temper tantrums based on misunderstandings of basic mechanics... isn't.

I did have a long hiatus from back when the game launched, so I missed a lot of updates, particularly the Horizons ones, that's why I ask.

Now on to feeling silly :)

Don't feel silly - you asked a valid question, not knowing the answer ... and got answered.
That's one of the reasons I love these forums. There are always numerous people who can answer your questions and, in more cases than one, people who are more than happy to go check something out for you to see if you got it right or not. This community is great. So is the game, for all of its intermittent warts, but the community makes it truly awesome.

Oh, and just for the record: I like the fact that the DSS etc. works the way it works. Otherwise there would be precious little reason to wait around to see what the "refined scan" might reveal. It'd just be jump, honk, FSS, jump again.

You should dss scan gas giants or anything with a ring...cos you might find a tritium triple hotspot or void opal/painite etc & then if it's undiscovered your name would be on it.
Think I've discovered only 50 or so systems each l scanned only anything with a ring or results of a refined scan...could be something down there...that's the excitement of it....not knowing.
Good luck cmdr
