APA'S or PA'S with new engineers?

As any old threads are now outdated I thought I'd ask:
For a PVP Chieftain APA'S or PA'S?
I've bought 6 APA'S today and have them stored.
What engineer mods and special effects? I was thinking focused mod, one target lock breaker and not sure about the other.
Also thought I'd put some on my Python.

Unlike the previous engineering regulations, you can now change the experimental effects - so why not try a few different ones and find which suits your play style?

There is no one definitive right answer.

Don't do it, except if you want to drive people away from playing with you. It's just plain annoying. Personally I have stopped playing against players with this stupid effect. As soon as I get hit once by this childish crap, I leave immediately.

Hope FDev will fix this at some point by adding a cooldown or something.

A few suggestions would help me to get the ball rolling.

I have six so playing about is not a problem but I'd rather not waste materials on unproductive results.

Every PVPer seems to have that mod. It may be too good granted.
What would you suggest?

Legacy mods will have a thermal load reduction.
Until they address that like they did with rail guns, new weapons will be at a significant disadvantage.

I just qualified for APAs myself and will buy a bunch of them.
I'm not sure if I'll even mod them or use them yet since I have multiple sets of legacy PAs.

That said, usually the mods you want are ones that increase shot speed; long range and focused.

Sturdy might be an option until they address the thermal load but you won't get the aforementioned shot speed benefit.

TLB is the obvious choice for experimental effect, but caveats apply apparently.

I noticed that APA'S have less thermal load than PA's so figured that not having a thermal reduction mod would be less of a problem...
Will have to test them out when I get up after my night shift.

Remember that they fire faster so much like imperial hammers/rails that number is misleading.

APAs are fun but also remember each shot is 1/3 regular PA damage, so you need to ensure each shot hits.

If you pop on rapid fire and have the rapid rapid fire experimental you get PA on tap which is nice.

Thanks! So approaching similar heat levels but higher fire rate.
I noticed in my last PVP fight that PA's weren't firing as fast as I'd like.
I hope they get a move on with heat reduction on a mod.

It works out to significantly more heat.
The HPS numbers from coriolis for unmodified c3 PAs are 6.3(4.7) and 8.8(7.1) for APAs.

That's if you survive the barrage long enough to FSD High Wake. Cascade Torpedos into Target Lock Breaking APA's can be brutal... I've felt that sting.

When everyone is using the same thing that's usually a clear sign for said thing being vastly OP. Sure, it's an obvious choice... feel free to join the retarget-every-2-seconds-club.

Drives me mad, you can forget targeting a subsystem reliably. Effectively that's what it does, no module targeting, unless someone has an exceptional conditional macro set up.

Long Range G5
Thermal Conduit

Extreme shot speed and the hotter your own ship gets the more damage output.
