Pretty sure that been proven not to be how it works by players in the Alpha Testing forum. See

even so, how would taking an Apex Taxi be a faster, cheaper, or better experience than either:
1. Transferring your ship to your current location?
Or,
2. Flying to another system in your current ship and changing to another ship there?
1) Well, if I'm already where I want to be, and I want a specific ship that's not there, then yes, I'm just going to transfer the ship.
2) This one is a bit more complicated:
Cheaper? Obviously, no*.
Faster? That depends. If I'm using assists to do all the work, roughly the same. If I feel like micromanaging my time at that moment, obviously I'll be faster.
Better? That depends*.
* There is a matter of time efficiency and usage here. Even using the most automation I can on my vessel, there is still a fair amount that has to be done manually, going from system to system. So let's say I want to watch something, or do some other activity during my transit. Well, I've still gotta pay decent attention to this, so I'm stuck at least partially with some fairly monotonous gameplay.
With the taxi, I just let it bring me where I want while I do my own thing. Let's say it's 30 minutes of my free time that would be taken up by me manually traveling. 100-200k of my game credits is easily worth 30m of my free time. To an extent, this opens up some options with low jump range combat vessels as well.
I'm not going to say it's always a good choice, but it certainly seems like a useful choice sometimes. Now this is ignoring the plethora of issues, lack of options, and restrictions in the system as we experienced it in Alpha...
