Apex Taxi service is the best thing about Odyssey! hear me out.

A unsung feature doomed to not be used so they say.

I say other wise It will give me the ability to play how ever I wish. Now if I am docked at my favorite Mining spot but feel like some pew pew I can hop a taxi ride out to my home base hop in my combat ship Pew pew all night and reverse the cycle the next day when I need to make some coin. with out having to move any of my ships I like this thanks Fdev nice option

The best for me would have to be the planet tech. Apex is an unexpectedly positive thing though, if they can sort out the issues with being unable to do things without our active ship present.

It will come in handy in terms of switching between ships at different stations. Considering it will also add more traffic to the world will hopefully make things feel more lively

Apex rides across multiple systems are actually quite expensive. And once you're on the way, you can't change your mind. And you can't fly to fleet carriers.

It's a great idea, but as per the norm, the implementation is questionable. The expense part isn't actually too bad (compared to the money you can make doing... whatever), but the lack of FC support, the issues with it getting stuck on planets, the inability to cancel or change the flight plans... etc. Very shoddy. We'll see what happens in release, but I'm not expecting great improvements.

As a passenger, you're actually more limited than passenger NPCs we transport. They can request a change in destination mid-flight I believe.

Except it doesn't work like that.

You have to return to whatever ship you were most recently flying before you can switch to another ship.

You can't just take a taxi to another station where one of your ships is, and get into it there. You'd have to transfer your current ship to that station, get in your current ship, and then, switch ships.

Yep. That's how it works.

Pretty sure that been proven not to be how it works by players in the Alpha Testing forum. See https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/you-are-your-ship-alpha4.573686/

even so, how would taking an Apex Taxi be a faster, cheaper, or better experience than either:

1. Transferring your ship to your current location?
Or,
2. Flying to another system in your current ship and changing to another ship there?

1) Well, if I'm already where I want to be, and I want a specific ship that's not there, then yes, I'm just going to transfer the ship.

2) This one is a bit more complicated:

Cheaper? Obviously, no*.
Faster? That depends. If I'm using assists to do all the work, roughly the same. If I feel like micromanaging my time at that moment, obviously I'll be faster.
Better? That depends*.

* There is a matter of time efficiency and usage here. Even using the most automation I can on my vessel, there is still a fair amount that has to be done manually, going from system to system. So let's say I want to watch something, or do some other activity during my transit. Well, I've still gotta pay decent attention to this, so I'm stuck at least partially with some fairly monotonous gameplay.

With the taxi, I just let it bring me where I want while I do my own thing. Let's say it's 30 minutes of my free time that would be taken up by me manually traveling. 100-200k of my game credits is easily worth 30m of my free time. To an extent, this opens up some options with low jump range combat vessels as well.

I'm not going to say it's always a good choice, but it certainly seems like a useful choice sometimes. Now this is ignoring the plethora of issues, lack of options, and restrictions in the system as we experienced it in Alpha...

It's certainly going to be very helpful if you don't own a FC. Some games may remind you to take a break, but APEX is a way to take a break and still get someting done.

Wonder how much a trip to Colonia costs using Apex Interstellar.

Can't be done, max distance an Apex taxi can travel in one journey is 100ly, once you reach the Colonia Highway there aren't enough stations close enough, would be interesting to do though if it could be done, but we could calculate it theoretically based on current cost versus ly travelled.

If they let you Apex to Fleet Carriers, then theoretically a chain of them could be built.

But I expect they don't want to handle the question of "what if you ask for an Apex to a FC around a distant secondary star, and it jumps out while you're in transit?"

so your going to sit and watch yourself get transferred for an hour? (even though it dont work like that, you have to return on the same shuttle)

wow..... just wow...

i mean if you could transfer your CMDR while offline you may be on to something.

If a chain of FCs were to work they'd need Apex Interstellar to be available as one of the Carrier services - to travel from one to the next.

That too.

i guess you'd just travel to the new destination, risk you take i guess.

i mean if it works the same as ship transfer to Fleet carrier, because as an example i transferred one of my ships, and proceeded to jump the fleet carrier before it arrived.

Timer did not increase, nor did i pay more, but the ships destination changed obviously, although apex travel is sort of a live stream so i guess it would have to continually jump to catch the FC up, or follow it forever into the black haha

i suppose its the same answer though as "what happens if i log off while docked at a random FC" well you could wake up in the fordemine rift or beagle point who knows...
