Apologies to the PvPer I just offended

I just responded to what you said. If it needed quotes to indicate you were using it ironically, then yes.
I wasn't using it ironically agony, just using vernacular. If you want to continue this off topic conversation perhaps it would be better done in private.

Maybe something worth repeating....

@Old Duck used to have a comment in his sig' saying something like "If you explode my ship I will block you because, as far as you're concerned, I'm dead to you".

I guess that might seem a little "petulant" but I gotta say that I respect that mindset.
Sure, on one level it is just blocking somebody who exploded you but, then again, it's also adding some meaningful consequences for what might otherwise be a thoughtless act.

If we're involved in some kind of conflict then I guess ship-destruction is something you just take on the chin, get rescued, claim on your insurance, climb into your replacement ship and get back into the fight.
Conversely, if you're just trundling around, minding your own business, when your ship is destroyed in a random act of violence then I guess it's reasonable to assume the attacker didn't want you around and so blocking them fulfills that objective... as well as simply ensuring you don't see them again.

I dunno.
I kind of wish that FDev could figure out some way to give PvP more "meaning" - not just in terms of C&P or whatever but something that'd give players cause to stop and think about whether attacking another player IS a good idea or not.

PVP has, from the very beginning has had almost no in game value except fun for those that enjoy it. There is no way to really make PVP more meaningfull when it is completely optional. Even in open, one can so easily nope out of it that it is only really a factor for new players or those caught unaware.

One way to stop ganking would be for the rebuy insurance to be revoked. So once a ganker passes the notoriety 10 due to a stream of ganks, his ship won't be replaced If lost.
Dunno about any if you but that would bite hard. Can't be sustained he'd run out of ships!

Be consigned to stock fdls hehehe

I didn't realize that notoriety differentiated between Players and NPCs.

Gankers don't get blown up though. They only attack the weak, and run, or log, the second things don't go their way. No rebuy would not be a deterent.

Ive been doing it a similar way.

I pretend there is a tool on board my ship that lets me avoid people who have attacked me but failed. (the block list)
So if I get interdicted and attacked or attacked in an instance by someone not on the enemy side, but I escape, I add them to the block list.
If they kill me, or if they are red because they joined the other team, I dont add them to the list.

Working well so far.

That's sorta interesting. I mean, all Commanders are supposedly members of the Pilot's Federation and it's them (if I understand the Lore correctly) that offer the insurance. They'd likely NOT be pleased with their own members causing them to have to pay out literal billions to replace people's ships when the pilot just pays a very small percentage.

There was talk ages ago about premium increasing for those who make a lot of claims - nothing came of it though - however, to have an ever-increasing penalty (higher premiums >>> no cover) to those "at fault" in such claims might have potential. Of course, it only hurts the perp if they ever need to make a claim.

The problem with that is always going to be that first the ganker would have to get blown up. This is already very unlikely if they don't want to be and all you'd really see is an increase in people leaving the game running overnight to burn off any notoriety they pick up.

Increasing insurance would work out too well either. The players who get blown up the most are PvP and AX players. It's likely that creating a situation which increases risk with no additional reward would make the former more likely to just find players who blow up easier and the latter less interested in gameplay that FDev are trying to encourage in the current CGs.

All this would do, is turn all PvPers into Gankers. (Why risk a rebuy?)

Also - I have so much money and materials, I could build a PvP FDL in about an hour.

You had an unusual response to what happened to you.

Organic PvPers, and "gankers" or "emergent content providers" as they like to refer to themselves, they want you to get angry, "salty" at getting blown up -- instead you wrote an Open letter of Apology to the PvPer!
The relevant player might be mildly disappointed because of that response, but no worries - I'm sure they'll survive.

It might've been linked before the thread, but "the Git Gud Guide to Trading in Open" by Rinzler (despite being more then five years old) is a good primer for how to gear for and survive an interdiction - just in case a reader of this thread needs the guide.

Fairly outdated. But a good start to get into the Standard procedures. Today to be sure to survive a gank as trader, you need to have g5 eng shields, FSD and PP. Wing ganks, FDL G5 murderboats and groms force you to do this.
