[APP] Elite Notes, a very simple price recorder for your android device

Latest update (1.6) on its way out now with "notes" feature, basically a free text section available for each system and station.

---

Greetings Commanders!

I have published an Android app called "Elite Notes" which is a substitute for pen and paper when recording commodity prices. It lives on your Android device; you won't have to alt+tab or play in windowed mode, which is the main reason I created it in the first place. It has nowhere near the functionality of some of the desktop apps so for many of you it simply won't do as a replacement. In fact it currently has no functionality at all except recording commodity prices really - it is merely something I'm using myself and I thought I'd share as I figure there's got to be someone out there interested.

To find it you can either search the Play store for "Elite Notes" and scroll down a bit since for some reason lots of other apps show up before it in the list even though they have completely other names, or if you're reading this on your android device you can go directly to the store page by clicking HERE.

This app will always be free and will never have any ads.

Looks nice :) Been looking forward to a mobile price recording tool

Unfortunately my phone runs on an earlier version of Android (gingerbread) and so is incompatible.

Nice work though :)

I'll try this. Thanks for taking the trouble to make it. +rep

Just for info, on paper I only record demand and supply strength, so each commodity gets MD or HS, something like that, prices wobble around anyway.
So my ideal trade recorder would just have a list of commodities with two entries (supply and demand) with the options high, medium, low and default none. It's fast, simple and has all I really need to know.
Anything more is a bonus really.

Does it do landscape? My tab stand only does landscape.

Just downloaded it. Fantastic.

Simple, clear and easy to use. Well done mate.

You get a full list of commodities and are able to select both there supply and demand prices.

Can you include a weapon and module version?

Wow nice to see this amount of response so soon

This is very much due to me being lazy as the layout of the app mostly can be done on any version but I'd need to use some compatability libraries. But the fact is something like 8% have pre-4.0 android versions so I guess I'm putting it on my todo list.

This is a choice I made because of the future trade finder function I have in mind. The way it'll work is you enter the current price for commodities and if you're interested in buying or selling them (ie. supply or demand) and when you use the trade finder it first asks you to enter a minimum desired profit and then shows you a list of suitable trades based on matching entries across stations. So if you've entered Indium as Supply for 2000Cr somewhere and as Demand 2900Cr somewhere else, that'll give you a match if your desired profit is 900 or below. So I guess that's when this app will leave the "pure pen and paper" stage. However there really isn't anything stopping me showing low/med/high only for a commodity - and maybe extend the design of the trade finder to also just do matches based on those states and disregard prices all together, if the user likes. So I suppose this is on my list too :)

It doesn't at the moment but I'm adding it for the next version! I turned it off because all the extra horizontal space doesn't add any extra value to the information presented, I just didn't consider some people wanting it anyway for whatever reason. So on the list! I'm also making the rows a bit thicker as they can get a bit tricky to hit on some of the higher resolution screens.

Cheers! I haven't thought about a ship modules version at all, I'll investigate later and put it on my "maybe list".

You might want to check with Frontier to see if they are ok about you using game assets - such as the shield gauge image on the Play page.

Thanks, I really hadn't considered that at all

I am using the excel app to take notes and i also like marking the stations that have a black market. I havent tried your app yet, but this could be accomplished simply by changing the type color i guess.

Thank you for sharing anyway. I'll definitely try this

I'm not personally going to use auto trade calculators, so if phase 1 turned out to be just recording HML or None in supply and demand, I'd use it in preference to my illegible scrawlings. The main point of this really being the number of discrete actions required to record the state a particular market, and the time taken to do it. A tap to toggle field for supply and demand on each commodity would save typing in endless numbers. I'm very lazy. Of course this may not be something that fits with your plans, so just a hopeful suggestion.

Really it's just a matter of extending the data per commodity to six different states instead of just two. I can still keep my original trade finder plans. However I don't know about cramming the six buttons in on a single row due to space limitations. Maybe if I did a landscape version with the buttons visible directly and in the portrait mode you'd have to open the usual popup to see all the buttons. I think that's doable.
.
Anyway I just published a small update, it's got landscape mode now and a couple of other tweaks. Here's hoping I didn't break anything

You might get away with two buttons that are only big enough to display 4 (or even just H, M, L or N) characters , one button each for supply and demand per commodity, and cycle the text on them per press through High > Med > Low > None > High etc. I didn't explain well, sorry.
Easy for me to say. I do realise this isn't only for my personal use.

For me just knowing that a certain commodity is actualy available at that station is valuble info. If i could just highlight the named product by tapping its name to make it stick out from the rest would be great.

Just dropped a new version; now with choice of system allegiance, station type and black market availability. More to come. Cheers.

I noticed I've spelled Independent as Independant in the dropdown for systems. This is a very important bug that will upset a great many people and not at all a mere attempt at bumping this thread as I made my last post in the wee hours of the night and noone saw it :p

Evening folks, time for a new update of Elite Notes! This time I've added the ability to edit systems and stations without having to recreate them, and also a basic trade finder. Have fun :)

Same here. Knowing the supply and demand levels is enough for me. The levels would still be useful for a trade calculator: HS > HD = best profit, etc.

Another useful feature would be a commodity filter. I don't bother trading anything with a galactic average less than 1,000 credits so if I could filter out the cheap commodities that would be awesome.

I'm a Windows guy, but I still have my old Android phone laying around somewhere so I'll give this a try.

PS: a Windows app would be awesome too!

I plan on letting the user select a minimum profit level when using the trade finder, or at very least ordering the list by descending profits. Thanks for the input :)
