Are donation missions worth anything?

Yeah. Not by themselves, but a few million thrown at random superfaction-aligned people does make a difference. Isolated areas and faction in the various states affect the mission generation the most, I think.

INF affects your federal and imperial rank
REP affects your standing with said faction, thus giving access to better INF missions.

therefore donate missions, give + to INF +++ to REP will give better paying and better INF missions, but won't boost your Rank very much

Basically, if trying to rank up, do any donation missions you can. If you're doing other missions you shouldnt go broke. But the values requested I've seen range from 25,000 to 1,000,000. Last night I donated...a lot to different factions. But had credit gains due to supplementing other high paid missions with this. Also, donations can lead to follow up missions, usually in the form of an easy cargo delivery. Which means more missions toward rank up.

Wait...really? I always thought it was REP that ultimately boosted your rank. Like the more rep you gain with Superpower aligned factions to more your rank with that Superpower goes up. I thought INF just affected the influence the minor faction has within that single system and didn't have much to do with Superpower rank?

I'm so confused by the BSG sometimes......most times actually.

I've always heard the opposite.

As for the money it takes, I've got 325m in cash and a couple ships I could sell if it became necessary. I"m not worried about going broke.

For the most part, ill take donation missions, because that cuts my time from doing petty missions to gain influence in the local faction. Then it opens up for me to be considered cordial or friendly which those missions pays a lot better. especially if youre at 100% and need to rank up and looking for that naval mission.

Sorry but I'm pretty sure this is completely wrong.

INF is the minor factions INFluence in the local system - ie does nothing for you as a pilot
REP is REPutation with the faction ie progresses your reputation (minor/major)

AFAIK, there is no in game indicator to know exactly which missions will affect the NAVAL progress percentage (be it imperial or Federation) before completing them and simply looking at your rank progress bar to see how much it changed.

I think they have tweaked exactly what does/doesn't affect your navy progress in recent patches. Handing in combat bounties and donation missions both def do move your navy progress, not sure about other mission board stuff though (I suspect assassination missions do as well).

To answer the OP, yes Donation missions progress your Navy rank, always have as far as I can remember. Think the progress they give is pretty fixed now, in that I believe a donation of 25K now gives you pretty much the same progress as a 1M donation, it's certainly not as pronounced a difference if there is one at all. At higher ranks 1 donation mission gives about 1% progress if I recall - I haven't actively paid attention to this for a while, I'm already at Cutter/Corvette level in both navies.

Thanks for the confirmation. It's been quite a while since I did the Corvette grind, and I'd heard that they nerfed donation missions into the ground.

I always thought it was:
Faction Reputation
Superpower Influence
which was represented by the two bars whenever you turn in a mission. But the faction influence does make sense as well.

Thought the same as you guys for ages. And I mean a long time. +++INF increases my federal rank more than +++ REP.

been grinding through lieutenant recently trying to find the most effective way.

donations and low INF missions progress rank less than 1%. High INF missions progress my federal rank by a bit more than 1% as of today. It was definitely a thing donating before engineers but not recently given the millions I've sunk into multiple factions.

cost my mate a pretty penny buying his rank through donations, but from my experience this is no longer a thing.
