Engineers Are grade 5 power distributors worth the grind?

I have A rated grd 1 upgrades on all my ships but had an acute attack of laziness and stopped there. Is grd 5 worth it?

Absolutely. Having grade 5 charge enhanced power distributors will greatly enhance your ability to do DpE (Damage per energy)

However, exquisite focus crystals are only offered in missions. And unfortunately, missions are currently bugged and only offers biotech conductors. So unless you already have exquisite crystals, it's impossible to find them for now until a fix is introduced.

Never quite got the hang of power distributors to be honest and having all my ships upgraded doesnt seem to have enhanced my life in any meaningful way!

Most grade 5 mods don't necessarily give massive improvements over 4 in the positives but tend to remove some of the negatives..... but i've found G5 best

The problem with distributors like FSD is that there are too many sliders to get 'godlike' roll on .... there's so much RNG on those components

I have a G5 Charge Enhanced Power Distributor on my FdL and would say it’s definitely worth it.

I’m currently at work so don’t have the stats to hand, but I have x5 MCs and with 2 pips to WEP I can fire constantly until my ammo runs out, leaving the rest of the pips free to distribute between ENG and SYS as required. With 4 Pips to ENG I can pretty much boost forever, and 4 pips to SYS keeps my shields up when under fire.

I’d love the same mod on my Python but finding more Exquisite Focus Crystals is putting me off at the moment.

I would say go with the weapon focused if you are combat prefered. No other upgrade is a match for weapon focused grade 3. Its a beast.

If you get a really good L5 it's a beast this one is in one of my Pythons

Power distributor 7A – modified level 5 charge enhanced (+36 – 41%/-6.6% charge/capacity)

But a good L4 is worth having as well this one's in my Python miner

Power distributor 7A – modified level 4 charge enhanced (+30%/-10% charge/capacity)

I've just tried an L3 weapon focused PD on a Viper 4 and it can fire pulse lasers for ages on two pips impressive.

G5 Charge Enhanced is fairly moot at this point, if you don't have any Exquisite Focus Crystals, since they seemingly can't be found, at all (since 2.2). That being said, I've got G4 on the three ships I have, and it does seem to help in firefights.

as other are saying, if you have spent all your exquiste focus crystals, G$ is already very very good!

for WEP focussed - a G3 charge enhanced will beat it in recharge rate, which will allow you to shoot more continously .... the only usage i see for WEP focussed is when you use weapons with a lot of PIP drain per shot, for exampel a double railgun loadout (there i use a WEP focussed PD on my DBS).

I have fitted the grade 5 charge enhanced PD to a few of my ships...it works well. And also a G3 weapons enhancement for the Corvette....which is nice. The upgrades are most noticeable.

Flimley.

I can't speak from experience as I've only got Grade 3, but honestly I've never needed more than what I've got.

I will eventually go up to G5, but TBH it's going to be the last thing I do as long as I have this G3.

I'll have to see if I can dig out my Charge Enhanced roll, but it's something like 19% on everything apart from Weapons which have a 28% or something similar.

The major advantages to upgrading this and your power plant is if you are seeking to obtain the highest jump range possible. In this case, you will be fitting a lower class module than the Max your ship can use and then using these upgrades to increase the performance of that module up to and beyond that of the top class version. (Grade 4 and 5 upgrades are essential to achieve that goal)

This will reduce your ship's weight significantly while at the same time providing you with more performance than the stock A rated max class offers.

You could of course just install the max class A version and modify that to allow for more stuff to be running at once etc. But the rewards for this approach are considerably less than getting say a 6A Grade 5 Distributor to outperform a stock 8A version.

As far as grind? I didn't find my Distributor or Power Plant upgrades that much of a grind.

One last thing I strongly advise... Bring MULTIPLE stock modules to the Engineer you will be working with first before attempting any major upgrade session. (Buy and store them elsewhere and then TRANSPORT those to the Engineer base via Outfitting/Module Transfer & Storage) This will give you the ability to keep your better rolled upgrades by swapping in another stock module and resuming the process. In the end, you will either end up with one very high grade upgrade, or if you are lucky, several of them that can be transported back to your home system and used in other ships. :)

From a combat perspective yes they are absolutely worth it. I did g5 charge enhanced PD mods on 5 of my ships and the results were impressive. Especially on corvette. 8a charge enhanced pd with +38% recharge rate means that you can do things like all energy weapon builds and not worry about power which is awesome. However considering the rarity of some of the mats needed it might be a good idea to just get a grade 4 for now until you can get a hold of these mats. Especially since mats like exquisite focus crystals are not obtainable in game due to the bio-tech conductor bug. And the g4 isn't that bad compared to the g5. For example on a whim I did some g4 charge enhanced PD mods cuz I was curious and the results were surprisingly good. With just 4 tries I managed to get a 31% charge enhanced mod which is only just 7% worse than the best g5 charge enhanced mod I had. And I recon that you can get an even higher result than +31% if you really tried and since you aren't limited by the mats like focus crystals(things like chem.manipulators might be a bit rare but can be easily obtained unlike focus crystals) you can have plenty of tries and get a good result.

I'm a bit baffled by some of this thread, as to me the power distributor is the single most important module in the game - more than any gun, shield, drive or ... well ... anything.

To the OP: yes.

To one or two other respondents: ???
