Are muzzle flashes too exagerated?

This is common in modern military weapons unless they are being used by Bruce Willis, in which case 4 yard muzzle flashes in broad daylight are standard.

And that with small arms, no need for 155mm howitzer

My 2 cents to the OP:
I don't find the flashes disturbing as they are now. Since we have visible laser beams in space, a bit exaggerated muzzle flashes fit well in the theme .
That said, I wouldn't object if the flashes will be smaller in later builds either.

Let the ammo cost reflect the magnitude of muzzle flash. Or an option to buy flash mufflers or something.
