Engineers are npc's too hard?

first time i was in there i made 500k credits and was in no danger whatsoever. then i got back because i got some missions to kill ships there and was killed quite rapidly. guess it's a matter of faction. one's super easy, the other super hard. dunno if that's intentional.

Sometimes it's just a matter of rotten luck. That's why it's a good idea to fight a ship whose rebuy you can stomach.

I do pretty well in the CZs, but have had nights where every single sortie resulted in a catastrophic loss. Sometimes it's best to just throw in the towel temporarily and walk away so you can get your head reset.

Yes, they have brokien the game with ridiculously overpowered npc ai and weapns. "Blaze your Trail"? forget all aboyr that and run Forest, RUN! Fdev are just a joke and never play their stupid game, or they would see what a pile of crap it has become.

i was just killed two times in a row in a low intensity conflict zone. i'm using a vulture. first time it took about 3 seconds, second time i tried to escape but 2 ships decided to hunt me down. boosted as often as i could, all energy to drives. they killed me non the less. one was master, one was dangerous. i'm only competent.

last played the game several months ago and was killed once in my entire play time. a challenge is nice but this seems to be a bit excessive. it also felt like the npc's were cheating. they kept firing at me while i was boosting away constantly.

this was a low intensity conflict zone and i use a combat oriented ship. how's this supposed to work when you get destroyed in 3 seconds? pick the right faction or die instantly? i had two missions there. guess i don't do that then.

Don`t choose side right away, take you time, fly away from the furball an chose side when you out out range, and have ready to hi-wake. And yes, i agree with Vindelanos high intensity conflict zone a more easy.

Exaggerate much?
Even an eagle would last longer than 3 seconds against a corvette.

Yeah, let's go back to brain dead NPCs that spin in place and wait for you to shoot them. [/sarcasm]

Only when you have picked just 1 to fight but another 1 joins in. That is just bias imo. Why they did not attack each other instead when it is the bad WANTED guy with the Bounty!

i also don't know if people who didn't buy horizons are even able to get those upgrades. i assume they do because it would be borderline pay2win if they wouldn't be able to.

A paid expansion that happens to be associated with an increase in player power or options (i.e., level cap increase, new characters, new gear, etc.) but still requires you to earn these upgrades in-game is not "pay to win". You only pay to gain access to the new features, they don't just hand the upgrades to you simply for paying money. In fact if all you do is "pay" for Horizons then you get 0 benefit from this alone. You only get Engineering mods from collecting mats and making upgrades and this process isn't even much of a grind anymore in 2.1.05. Elite has never been "pay to win" in any way (other than possibly the very small benefit players got from the free eagle when pre-ordering Elite). For some reason there is a surprising number of players who seem to have never encountered common gaming terms before, which is why we have people on these forums suggesting Horizons is "pay to win" or normal PvP activity is "griefing", etc.

Obviously combat skills play a big part but I think the main factor on where people stand on th NPC difficulty arguement is how well their ships are modded.

My combat skills plateaued at 'average skill' a good while back and initially I found the new AI quite challenging but as I moved up the engineered mod tree they became progressively easier. So much so that now with G5 mods on my ship even the Elite NPCs are a bit of a snooze fest and pretty much zero challenge.

but you can't get those upgrades when you don't own horizons? do we share the same universe with vanilla elite players? are horizons players stronger than vanilla players? if the answer is yes it's borderline pay2win.

elite is not a mmo. elite does not have levels. it doesn't need power creep. in fact, power creep is just lazy. adding a number to something that was there before is lazy. i'd rather have more options than just an arbitrary number.

When 2.1 first dropped my experience playing PvE flying a Python in CZ-low was      to pathetic. After some steadily acquired RNGineer mods to said Python, I steadily improved that experience to a point whereby I can now go to a CZ-low and wipe out many ships while at the same time gather materials and commodities. Due to work commitments, I have yet to play since the latest patches and I am eagerly anticipating a much better playing experience. Bring on those NPCs'.

What on Earth?

Just because you don't classify it as an MMO and there aren't strictly levels, though we do have combat ranks, that's rubbish grounds to say it's not acceptable to release updates that improve your ship.

Of course we're going to get ship improvements. I would probably think twice about buying the game if the ten year plan has no ability to upgrade your ship. And what do you expect for "more options" if the engineers aren't "more options?"

Not to mention that if you bring in these "more options", you still have to lock them to people who but the expansion pass. And then you'll have similar whiners complaining it's P2W because they weren't given that content. Or do you expect FD to develop ED for another 10 years but not get a penny out of that development?

Seems like a classic case of "I want ED written to how I think it should be".

Op. I understand your sentiment. I hadnt played in months. Picked it back up this weekend. Getting wrecked non stop now. I can't even fire before I'm on the defensive. Staying out of combat zones until i can figure out what these engineers are all about.

Personal experience tells me I'm just not good enough yet, and that's why certain NPCs are killing me quickly. I may be wrong.

I don't think I've come across any that are too hard, as such, more that I'm outnumbered usually and have so far struggled to adapt my tactics to deal with more than one ship..

CZs are pretty hard, I've only just sussed them after 800+ hours of game time. I can only say, stay in areas where there are more green triangles than red ones, or things can go sour real fast. I'm also in an engineered FAS, last time I tried it in a Vulture I got ganked repeatedly. They are meant to be a challenge.

This is one of the reasons I don't mod at all, and don't intend to.
