I've just started playing in Odyssey and I'm loving it so far. I've been doing missions to get some materials but I can never seem to do the collection missions correctly. The mission says it's threat 0, isn't purple like the other illegal missions I can see, and basically just says "go here collect that". So I travel to the settlement, request to dock, my docking request gets accepted but then the game says I'm trespassing after my ship auto docks and the settlements guards and turrets becomes hostile? Am I doing something wrong or are all odyssey settlement missions illegal? Or do I have to land further outside the settlement and walk into the perimeter. Thanks for reading.

No they're not illegal. Something odd happened, maybe your docking clearance got revoked just as you docked. It's not a usual occurrence.
The only "illegal" collection missions are the ones where they ask you to get Synthetic Pathogens or Biochemical Agents.

Try travelling to the settlement in an Apex shuttle...
It may be a bug, but if you request docking and land within the allotted timeframe, you will not be tresspasing
Also make sure you land at the designated landing pad and dont get too close to settlement buildings when coming to land.
Generally is a good idea to use a advanced docking computer (no matter what others would think about your general flying skills)
Also, there is (or was, not sure if the info is still valid) a collection mission type that will have you get something (personal data or the likes) from a locker inside a hab.
A certain settlement layout has the said locker in a side room within a Hab that has a restricted area red warning right at entrance. You need to employ stealth tactics to get inside unnoticed (watch the npc pathing and go in when they cannot see you)
Edit: and hopefully you are not hostile with the faction ruling that settlement

I think the last mission it happened on was the personal data one so yes might be that, funny thing is I was using a docking computer too aha. Maybe I had an outstanding fine for dangerous flying or something with said faction? I'll just be sneaky with the personal data ones in the future then like you suggested.
Yes same, it's happened a few times for me now. Really frustrating especially if I die and have to respawn aboard a detention centre.

Yep. I don't think I've landed on the pad at a settlement since alpha - parking your ship behind a building lets you limit the arc of fire from the ground turrets.
I'm sorry these things aren't working as planed but here is some advice that might help as I have had experienced this a few times.
When to take these new mission remember that they are Odyssey content and for the most part you are expected to take a taxi and not your own ship. Now I'm not saying don't take your own ship but if you do don't land as a normal landing would be done as mentioned as above there might be some glitch issues here as one or two bays that are expected to always be open, but instead land your ship just outside of the mission base and walk in or SRV in and conduct business then return to your ship.
