Are people okay with the new-look planets?

An alternative to canyon running in the T-10

I've just landed on that planet on the right: it claims to have 2.7% arsenic - we will see tomorrow if it provides any at all

Yeah pretty good. I see what people mean about exploration needing new mechanics though, it feels just like the last version until you go up to something. I think maybe I need to stop travelling and find a nebula and just visit every system.

You are clickbitery over last ten posts or so :D :p

They look gorgeous. They went a bit into 'amazing looks' over realism, but not so far. I think they have found perfect point they can work around with. Also it seems they have found a way how to do it performance wise judging it now works flawlessly on PS4 Slim.

Is that Masszony 1AA?

If there's still a huge crater at roughly -46/-34, head for that, land in it, deploy your SRV and you should get oodles of Arsenic.
Driving around that crater, Bronzite Chrondites and Mesosiderites spawn every couple of hundred metres.
Arsenic was still fairly "rare" but, 'cos so many targets spawn, you could pick up several lumps of it every couple of minutes. [up]

Been meaning to go back and see if it's still works the same in 3.0.

I concur that I have always had most success finding arsenic in craters. Or at volcanic locations. Craters seem to be best for most elements, though, so I always aim for those.

I spent an hour or so driving around in the SRV last night, no motion sickness issues. I was on a very dark planet too (I love the new darkness :) ). Will try a red planet later as I am going to go on a hunt to replenish my materials.

As an explorer out in deep space I'm super happy. Can't wait for even more changes but for what they did change the view has been top notch.

P.S. ......Still hunting for the Thargoid hive base....

I've spent nearly as much time in the SRV as in my ship since 3.0 hit! The new textures really have amazed me, I keep wanting to land on the planets and have a look around, something I havent done in ages. The increased mat storage has allowed me to go gathering again and I've done more synthesis in the last few days than in the whole time since they put it in.
This patch really has been a huge improvement to the game. Between work and Elite I've hardly had time to sleep! Had more than one 'oops thats the sun up already?!' moments since 3.0 hit. :D

Agreed. I think it's my favorite update so far.

RE VR and feeling ill.
I think the landscapes have more bumps.
I have found it more difficult to find a landing site.
I use SRV in 2D as that's a bit too lively for me. In VR it's OK for a short time at low speed.
Generally, planets look better with more surface detail.
Flying low level in ASP-E at 300+ mps gives more of a sense of speed.
So generally quite a good upgrade.

Landscape geometry hasn't changed.

No, it's an undiscovered system .... quite a nice one; the planet on the right claims Arsenic, the one on the left Cadmium. So I shall be exploring them in my SRV.

As others have said, this update is wonderful .... it's actually beyond expectations, and we haven't reached Q4 yet !

I went into a crater (literally, and lost 25% hull in the dark !) .... but exploration in the SRV produced plenty of arsenic and also cadmium. So the spawning is working at least as well in 2.4, if not better.
