Horizons Are Thargoids hostile?

This has to play out in a much more complex senario than them and us. What about trading. Alien tech could be interesting. What about an agenda to influence power play creating an alliance. Carrying out missions for them. There is way so many possiblilties for how they could influence the galaxy. Simply being another combatant even and enigmatic one would be such a waste. Think of an thargoid bubble with its own factions.

This could go on for years and years and.........

It's a poorly worded question "Are thargoids hostile" - you'ew referring to an entire alien species.Consider this:"Are human beings hostile" Not only is everey person unique, but even then, hostility is contextual.I've not heard (In recent times - OOC: since start of E:D) any suitably evidenced record of Thargoids ever invading any core systems (such as within the Bubble). However, poke a bee's nest with a stick, and test the reaction.Pretty much EVERY living thing can exhibit some form of defensive reaction when disturbed.________________________What's critical to remember (( and OOC Braben has alluded to this being a defining feature)) is that Thargoids are ALIEN. By their natrure, whatever attempts they may make to aommunicate may be construed as being "hostile" to our limited understanding, sense and perspective.

While I will probably deep dive into a more cohesive "conspiracy theory" in further threads the current narrative pushed by FDev seems all too eager to paint the thargoids (and Federation) as "Saturday cartoon villains" meanly that "they're bad cause we say they are" and expecting us to take this at face value... despite past interviews saying that they may react according to player actions in future.

The "Facts" are that no loss of life has been confirmed during theses "attacks", no one has actually seen active weapons fire between humain and thargoid vessels and given the thargoids current ability to completely disable vessels them escalating to a direct kinetic conflict seems pointless.

Not to take away the "magic" but the Fed battlecruisers that where "spawned" in a scripted event (as evident by both having the same ID markings) are simply that 3d models interjected into the game space... but I digress

Its going to be phenomenaly boring if they aren't hostile......

Lets be clear - FD have said that winter is coming. Sorry WAR is coming.

The Return
continues the Horizons season with ongoing story events that will see pilots thrust into battle against the Thargoids for the first time in gaming’s modern age. More will be revealed in coming months about this terrifying alien menace as humanity’s relationship with the Thargoids evolves throughout Elite Dangerous 2.3 and 2.4, bringing a new dynamic to the Elite Dangerous galaxy. Players will be forced to develop new tactics and technologies of their own, or see humanity’s grip on our sectors of the galaxy recede.

You CANNON / Scientists better get working on some new bug spray.

.

But it would be very interesting, in my opinion, if we have two faction of Thargoids.
The good and bad and you never know which one you encounter.
For some you have to run or fight with others there is a great opportunity to trade and get alien stuff ( to fight the other ones.

sure, additional alien species would be interesting.

I'm just reporting an actual release from FD, on their website.

"pilots thrust into battle against the thargoids"
"terrifying alien menace"
"get some tactics or see humanity's grip recede"

CAN WE WEAPONISE THE ANCIENT ARTEFACTS?
THEIR INTERFACE DIDNT SEEM TO LIKE IT MUCH

I see.
That's what worries me. No offence to the Dev's but every bit of interesting gameplay is killed by the way it is implemented.
A new alien race. And all what it offers is a new chapter in seek and shoot.
So then we have pirats, griefers, fellow pilots in the open game and Thargoids.
I can see the new quests in the spreadsheets popping up. " kill two Thargoid ships in the blabla system...."
Let's hope they put a little more attention to gameplay this time. This has so much potential.

Premonition spoiler alert...

Its pretty clear that the oresrians are just planning on leapfrogging the human bubble to entangle us in a war with the oresrians that are persuing them, the idea of a peaceful mutually cooperative let me visit your bubble and buy rare goods or run missions for you isn't going to happen, they are refugees, and they are planning to effectively enslave us as unwilling soldiers in their war with the oresrians.

Given the oresrians want to dupe us into fighting on their side against the klaxians, its little wonder they haven't responded in kind to our trigger happy CMDR's shooting them. The Klaxians will most likely exterminate first and ask questions later.

This is something I just don't understand. There is huge potential in the game-play, but the only thing that everything leads to is war/fighting.

if the thargoids weren't hostile where would the new gameplay be? sure we could get some new upgrades but that's it, if they where hostile it would add a lot more stuff to do. I don't see why FD wouldn't do the latter

Frontier can do both. Thargoids aren't monolithic.

Well lets hope most players are paying attention DAVID did try and say their is going to be a few Alien races in game lets hope all those players that decided to shot at the first Aliens don't shot at all of them, and that they picked the hostile ones other wise the game play is going to get a little one sided with all the alien races trying to kill the humans I think we will have to run more than fight.

I know they were in the past. But that was hundreds of years ago., Now the only hostile idiots I see are the humans who are shooting without any reason at an alien vessel. Who is looking around or patrolling around a Thargoid site.
And yes I did see the wreckages of the human fleet. But who started the hostile shooting at that point?
If they are hostile and they show it you have a point of shooting at them but if they are not hostile can we have some gameplay of two species working together?
What do others think?
