Are we the baddies?

Biggest reason I neglected to unlock Palin: I didn't want to kidnap a bunch of alien babies (probes) and deliver them to be pulverized....

I feel the meta-alloy trees are in kindergarten or elementary.

What nonsense is this? Do you also feel bad for the scores of limpets meeting their end blasting into an asteroid? They are biological constructs that doesnt mean they are sentient or capable of emotions/ pain/suffering.

I think its silly how people will anthropomorphize literally anything.

The entire universe is conscious, everything has some degree of self awareness, even a limpet :)

Better to do it and find you didn't need to, than assume everything's lovely and then find you've been cheerfully slaughtering countless innocents.

Remember the 'endurium'.

"Time, it seems, doesn't flow.
For some it's fast, for others slow.
In what to one race is no time at all
Another race may rise and fall.
So many races have believed
In only what was preconceived.
That which is ancient may be new.
It all depends on point of view."

Well, it does seem the Thargoids do keep track on who seriously harmed them and who didn't. I haven't shot a single scout or interceptor yet. I have shot scavengers and I have traded meta alloys for the engineer and tech broker unlocks. I have not ever shot a barnacle. I do have guardian tech on my ships. I do have two AX ships setup for just in case. I haven't even seen a Thargoid ingame yet. I never got hyperdicted or anything. I flew out to witchhead in a Phantom with guardian FSD booster to grab the decal, then flew back home. Not one hyperdiction. A wingmate who has done a lot of Thargoid fighting got hyperdicted on almost every single jump there.
Nothing has been confirmed by F.D., but then they have always treated the player base, like mushrooms.

I have never shot at any of them, including the Barnacles. I got pulled out of jump space, just after they became a thing. I got scanned and then they left me alone. Have never been pulled again. I have dropped into the non human SSs a number of times. The role play me, feeds them every time I can, sometimes, buying slaves, to do so. I got within 500ms of one once and the little robot ships spawned and although they chased me, they never attacked me. I have learnt to keep a distance and had no issues since.

Well good luck explaining that to the goids. They’ll probably just eat you

Nothing against the Thargoids... nothing for 'em either.

Are we the bad guys ? Interesting. I can't see FDEV writing a story in which the players turn out to be horrible creatures.. Perhaps if we've been misled by INARA.. or 'he Club..

Let me guess, you didn't respect it when they politely refused your warning? Gweefer 🤪
I actually expected quite tanky larger ships and I got what I wanted. It's especially fun dropping into the AX CZs and both sides getting attacked by medusas or hydras. You never know the outcome! Also drawing the attention of thargs towards your opponent is a critical strategy. Managed to destroy a Corvette this way :p
Though it is always heartbreaking to watch a thargoid blow up, they even scream loud. :( Hence my Xena Ally Initiative.
The squishys, well, they gonna be educated even more by thargoids soon I guess.

We found the barnacles after the first thargoid war so they attacked us first. They attacked the guardians first unprovoked just because they were in the same area as the barnacles. The thargoids are millions of years old and they have the intelligence of at least human equivalent and maybee even more, so they have no excuse for being unable to decode our language and negotiate with us.

Every sentient species they encounter they attack and destroy without provocation. When first encountering the barnacles both humans and guardians did not know what they were. We all thought it was just a weird plant. The thargoids should have some kind of deterrent or marker or something to warn other species that belongs to them.

The only weakness the thargoids have is that they cant handle a protracted campaign because of how difficult it is to replenish their ships. The meta alloys are rare and they cant be grown in a short enough time so every ship we kill they cant replace but every ship they kill of us we can build 5 more to replace it.

In short no we arent the bad guys. The thargoids are aggressive and will kill all of us if they could. The only way we can survive is to cut off their supply lines and dwindle their numbers to the point the cost of continuing their campaign is too costly. But hey guess what? Maybee if that happens they may decide to open negotiations realizing they cant just bully every sentient species that pops up and it could help us unify ourselves also. Think about this also. Say some species does come up and is gloriously awesome in every way (assuming anyone even knows what that would look like) that species is just going to get beat down by the goids the second they go to look at the "little green plants".

Yet for all of that the Thargoids don't actually destroy anything. They damage stuff and leave us to repair it, which is exactly what we're doing to them. It seems pretty much 'mammary-for-tat' from my point of view.

We take your space cabbage that we didn't even know belonged to anyone and you burn down my house and kill half my family. Seems like a fair trade to me.
