Are you exploring because of 'greifing'?

Here's the elephant in the room:

Why are people exploring?
Is it because they can't survive doing anything else?

I'm 52k ly from sol, and happy to be here.. specifically because I cant be put on by pirates, or newbs who cant fly.

Are you out here because they are there?

Nope. I am exploring because pew-pew is meaningless for me. Trade and mining, I pretend they don't even exist.

Nope. I don't see why someone who is particularly interested in mmo at all would choose exploring, it's a solo activity.
If you want to mmo but dont like griefers, Mobius is a closer fit than exploring

No is the simple answer to your question.

I am out here because I want to and enjoy this element of the game the most at the moment. Everytime I dock back home it only takes hours before I am itching to fly off again into the void :)

Originally wanted to be an explorer as he proposed mechanism sounded a lot of fun: Hyperspace probes, planetary probes, special sensors for this that and the next thing, a way of finding new hyperspace routes, getting paid for them etc. There was a lot to it. Now it's still the bare shell of that proposal. That aside, I do like flying out there in the black, some nice sights to see.

No,

Just thought I'd try this side of the game for a change.

I'm actually missing the trading and combat, but there's plenty of time for more of that once I'm back.

OP, when people are bothered by Open what they do is play Solo or in PvE groups. You have to enjoy exploration on some level to get out thousands of light years from Sol, it can't just be about avoidance of people.

I wouldn't say I was exploring because I don't want to deal with people, but I would say I was in solo mode because I don't want to deal with people.

Nope, never been greifed, got a little bored of the grind and wanted to leave my mark on the galaxy with some discovered tags.
Loving being out in the black, will return when 1.3 is announced so I can see what powerplay is all about.

Nope...and I would say is a rather skinny elephant...people make it sound as if in open and civilized space you were griefed every single time you take off...

Since I started playing 5 months ago now, griefed once right on maiden flight...two months later I went to see griefing in action in George Lucas and in Lave...of course got "griefed?" each time...

And interdicted once by a pirate player who I could escape....

5 months, never play Solo, and that's all what I got with two occasions me knowingly exposing myself to it...I play at least one hour a day and average is 3-4 hours...5 months...this is not an elephant, is rather a mouse.

People who feel they are being griefed or even interdicted too much don't respond by heading out of the bubble. There must be some people who do that, I presume, but I would have thought the vast majority would respond differently. My guess - and obviously I am just guessing - would be that most people who felt the game wasn't being fun would switch to solo, a group, or just quit. Going exploring doing strike me as the obvious response to griefing.

No, I do it because I enjoy it.

I used to enjoy the odd encounter with wannabe pirates, but they just ran away now so that was no fun.

...people have been away from human space for almost two full months and still have 70% hull. Yes, there is no safer place to be. The universe is like a warm blanket and a cup of hot tea. The safest place to be. If you could step outside your ship and take your helmet off, there would probably be breathable air in this game.
