Horizons Are you still doing planetary missions?

I've decided to remove the SRV hangar bay and don't choose planetary mission anymore.

Basically because on a surface with SRV you can do two things: base assault or gathering resources. The first one is become too tedious since 2.1, because you cannot target ground enemies from the ship, and the resources aren't very useful right now (maybe for some engineers) and can be found in other ways, way less time consuming. However, I'm still able to land on settlements, since many courier/smugglng missions requre that.

Also since 2.1, I stil haven't get any engineers' upgrade and I'm doing fine without them.
It's too tedious and time consuming to grant access to rank 5 upgrades (or less).

It seems to me that anything about Horizons it's too time consuming and not really necessary, and can be avoided without controindications.
I've Elite on Xbox One too, but not Horizons, and I'm playing it in the same way I play Elite on PC, with Horizons.

I think FD should try to make planetary missions more unique, maybe adding stealth, hacking turrets and skimmers, adding "modding" to the SRV or at least a very huge payout. And add hand-crafted, story driven, missions for unlock any engineers rank. Otherwise, to me there si no point right now to own Horizons.

whilst I cant say there are not improvements which could be made, I did one last night (medium sec, no way I am tackling high on my own), it paid well, really enjoyable and I will be doing more.

unlike most (not all) of the guides I didn’t do an aerial assault 1st I did it all from the SRV

it was my 1st however despite owning horizons since day 0 and i am sure the novelty may wear off.

Honestly I play it the other way around.
I have all my ships in a chosen Star System- and some of those have a the SRV Hangar and some doesn't.

When it comes then to pick a mission from the Mission Board, I see what my favourite faction needs and change ship accordingly.
So- there. It's Schrödinger SRV Hangar for me.

If I try to destroy 2-3 skimmers with my SRV, I last a few seconds.

I'm really not into combat, even on ships, but at least on space you can avoid it and have fun, on the planetary surface you have to start a fight with some "defence system", even if you're looking for a crash site. It's really annoying to me.

The problem is that planetary missions are more risky and take more time than space missions, and usually they haven't a greater reward, so why took them in the first place?

Do you think I will tell you? Go find out :)

I've done plenty of surface exploration, in the bubble and outside, since Horizon came out.
Never find anything interesting.

It may be true for some missions... It's also true that once you have the best possible relationship status things improve. Missions gets harder and rewards gets higher.

The way I see this is I'm helping my favourite faction.
My other reward is to see them on top of the System food chain.

All in all it really depends on what you like to do.
I can never tire to repeat this- do what you like- imagine you'd be really there... what would your agenda be? What would you see yourself doing?
Plus- learning to drive on the surface it's a challenge on its own.

And if you have to attack a POI defended by more than a Skimmer- just deal with them with your ship first! :D
KABOOM-DAKKA-DAKKA! :D

There is also slaughter skimmers missions that are incredibly easy if you search for wanted off site skimmers.

Not to mention all these missions finish in space - meaning there is no timer on when to collect the rewards. You can have factions store engineer commodities for you that way.

Find a huge mountain on a low-g world, land on top, deploy SRV and jump of the mountain!

Loads of fun! Wing up and race all the way down to the hill :)

That's a shame, I really enjoy planet exploration.

An advice: don't look for a reward everywhere, you will be disapointed.

That's the problem, planets are barren lands, and I'm ok with that, but you usually go on a barren land for a reward, not for the view.
When you have seen the 3-4 types of surface colors, land on 3-4G planets, seen rings and gas giants from the surface, you have seen everything the planets poffer right noe.

Or something has changed since 2.1 and now POI are something interesting and not some canister with sometime a few annoying skimmers?

Put a bit more poetry in your journeys, it's space afterall... Don't you dream sometimes? I know the sky is blue but I never get bored to look at it and let my mind float..

Crashed ships, satellites, mining operations, nav beacons, uncharted settlements, ...

This is another thing I'm struggling with.
Beside role-playing, why should I bother to have a favorite faction?

Usually I go to a system in a boom state and take missions from every faction until I'm at least friendly with all of them. Then I'm able to take 20 courrier missions that grant 7-8 millions, and do them in 1-2 hours. When the state changes, I move on.

I'm afraid there's not really much beside role-playing. That's what I like, not being driven by a bad story with bland characters and poor dialog.

And to find these should I need to fly over 2km, wait for the blue circle, then land and hope it's not some rocks with materials I'll never use?
Because that's to me it's not really fun. I'd like to be able to find these sites from the ship and then land if I think they are interesting.

Also, are this sites random? Or I can find them only on specific planetary zones? And beside offering a nice view, are they offering something else, maybe a bit of lore?

Even role-playing, since you have thousands of faction, why pick one? They are the 4-5 types over and over again, only the name change.
There is no point to choose one faction over another and stay on a particular system. Beside try to become friendly or allied to have better mission rewards.
