I'll go along with this. I was wondering myself whether there was an are you sure box when you click on abandon. I use the joystick hat to navigate the menus and am often quite nervous when I have the mission details up that I'll accidentally knock the hat as I go to click the back button and abandon my mission.

As an alternative, you have to hold the abandon button down for a second in order to abandon the mission.
