Are you surprised it so bad ??

People are free to spend their money how they like - but I learned not to pre-order games like 15-20 years ago.

I have no idea why people still do it - now that everything is distributed digitally there's literally no reason to. It makes no logical sense to me at all (then again, humans are often very illogical).

The most hilarious part is - when you read reviews people who pre-order are often the most mad when a game launches in a sub-par state.... hard to feel much sympathy
You do realize, that even if you don't pre-order, you still buy the game before you play it.. right? So that was a jab at the inaccurate OP post, not to glorify pre-order culture.

To what end though? Do you need a shoulder to cry on, an agony aunt?

I'm not happy about the current state of affairs either but it's not like a CM is going to be able to sort it out. I'm sure the dev team are well aware what's going on, Braben himself hinted at it during the live stream, we can only wait for the next patch which will hopefully come soon and address the worst aspects.

CM's I feel kinda sorry for, I certainly wouldn't want to be in their skin now. Their job is purely PR, not fix the game or consoling distraught customers.
No, I'm tears-free ta :)

I just think it might be prudent for some kind of contact to be made on here to say "Yes, we know, we're sorting it" or "Nah, it's how it is". Chill people out a bit

Note to CMs: release the Panther Clipper and distract us with chonk.....we know its in the files.....

They got the cash before we got the game !!!!! all those how prepaid are to blame
This is probably a bad line of reasoning as such it completely condems all the LEPers and Kickstart backers as the main problem. But without them there wouldn't be a game at all 🤷‍♂️

If fdev release a bad product, blame fdev

I was expecting issues, yes. But I am disappointed I have to say. Let's see - codex entries not saving, missions not being able to be completed, graphics performance a bit meh, mission options seemingly either want me to commit crimes, kill people or go to Colonia for nix, NPC glitches (limbs merging into floors etc, lip sync either non-existent or just plain bad, still not walking properly.....), SRV throttle still seems to me not to have truly reverted to Horizons version, galaxy map UI just seems to make things harder not easier......nothing really game breaking (except maybe the codex entries issue making exploration pointless for now), but stuff that makes me feel.....'really? This is the trunk that was supposedly separate to the alpha?'

Even tried a random facility on a planet - requested docking permission, was GRANTED docking permission, as I approach to land I get the restricted area warning and trespass fine, just as I touch down, the installation starts firing on me. Managed to avoid a rebuy but really? How am I trespassing if they gave me docking permission......???

Pre orders are to blame.
Its no surprise that standards have dropped considerably since it became the 'norm'.

It makes no sense to blame players. None of us had anything to do with FDev releasing a crappy DLC. Everyone trashed the alpha, told FDev to fix it, then trashed the release lol. I'm 100% convinced that the devs had no intention of fixing all the bugs by release, pre-orders or no.

Blame everyone but the actual devs who did the work and the company that said, "yeah, this is acceptable to release to the public" is that really where we're at?

Players should take some responsibility for allowing game studios to get away with this for years. All these companies care about is your money, and if you gladly give them it up front, often months and months in advance, what incentive is there for them to give you something worthy of the hype they sold you in return? They already have your money!

Some people who are complaining about Odyssey today will once again go and pre-order the next update, then wonder why they're being sold another substandard product all over again.

Heh... I pre-ordered knowing full well it was gonna be a mess at launch. I came in with zero expectation, I played the alpha and thought it was meh. And even still I came out disapointed.
I've been using this on these forums for too long. You can have it now. You need it as much as I did now....

There is no dilemma.

If companies are paid before they deliver on promises repeatedly, they will shift their focus towards selling promises and not products . . . like EDO. It is very simple.

This is why games used to just work on launch as companies had to sell products, and failure to deliver functioning products meant failure. So companies focused on their product. But now, they can get by on selling promises, weathering the salt storm, and then come back to sell more promises to all the people who have grown accustomed to it.

Think SC could've happened before pre-orders? EDO? CP2077? Fallout 76? All created by those who pre-order.

Exactly!

I can agree on this. I just feel like we should put more blame on those collecting the $$. Those who paid and might already have been refunded aren't going to fix the problems that already exist and they aren't going to be paying the refunds to others.

No one blamed taxpayers who funded the bomb for hiroshima....

I think its good. Yes, there are bugs, but I expect that.

The game will improve, it just needs time.

Sometimes I think we need to step back and actually appreciate just how wonderful the scope of the game is. This stuff is complicated and yet we get to travel anywhere in a 1 to 1 scale Galaxy. Amazing.
