Are you upset about the Mobius attack? Are you unhappy about the dev response? Then embrace the Ides of March!

Are you upset about the Mobius attack? Are you unhappy about the dev response? Then embrace the Ides of March!

This is a call for people that want to play 'their way' to stand up and be counted!

Stop playing Elite: Dangerous or Elite: Horizons during the week of March 15th, 2016 (3/12-3/19) State your intentions and reasons below.

Publically declare a stance against the griefing of other players, demand a way to prevent this from occurring so that people can play in a real PvE environment..and show FDev how much of their community cares about this problem. Make the galaxy a truly empty place for a week!

For this to succeed we will need a full marketing blitz through all channels used to show off the greatness of this game we all love!

Streamers on YouTube and Twitch..play something else that week...and explain to your audience your reasoning!

If you think it is high time to set this problem straight..show FDev that you are willing to walk away from this game over this problem.

A PvE group should not have to 'suck up' PvP damage because of people crashing their party. PvP should not be able to occur within that environment at all.

Let's show the game what community backed Meta-game/emergent gameplay really looks like.

If you disagree..please carry your discussion over to this thread

...I know it will be divisive and want both sides to be heard...but I want ot keep this thread as clean as possible. Please Do NOT use this thread to argue against the idea. I will ask the mods to keep this thread as clean as possible to only allow it's use as a sign up with a simple statement as to why any player or group will be taking this week away from the game.

Just adding this here so folks can see this exchange.

Hey guys,

I just thought i would pop on here very quickly.

Just to clarify the point that was made on the reddit thread a little bit more.

As we've said before, without question this kind of behavior is not condoned.

I can also confirm this is not us ignoring the EULA and it is not because we support any game mode over another.

Ultimately the action that was done (shooting a player in that location) is not against the rules, its the group rules that state they should not do this. Unfortunately we aren't able to enforce all groups specifc rule sets.

Mobius makes a great point which is quoted on the early part of this thread.

People are free to take any action and play (or not play) any time they wish. But as was mentioned already on this thread, I personally think it is much more about the wider questions this raises and in my mind its more powerful to look at things like highlighting and discussing how many players would love (and hate) to see an official supported pve mode, or as mobius would atest to, improved group management tools.

I'm all for a community movement and highlighting the wish and desires of a group of players, and frontier are definitely always listening.

Thanks for jumping in Zac. The first highlight is the problem. It should be against the rules. Players, particularly in Mobius' group (but many others also), have decided to avoid Open because they find the gameplay going against what they desire within the game...and many have been told to go there, specifically by the PVP crowd, to avoid the problems they have with Open. Now the PVP crowd has a shooting gallery available any time they want it...with the express purposes of collecting tears.

Now we have PVP groups who are purposely targeting these PVE groups with apparently long term plans to continue to do so. I am happy to hear you guys are not condoning this play...and yet, you are doing nothing to prevent it. Groups are admitted to the game with the express understanding they do so at FDev's whim. Wouldn't this type of play warrant a removal of the group from the galaxy map? However, in the end, what would that accomplish? Nothing. The group will still exist and still be able to carry out their plans. Basically, short of removing all the known 'bad actor' players from the game...there really is nothing that FDev can do to punish these silly actions.

There have been many folks discussing this issue in these forums, realized the above, and showing the need for some system to allow the PvE players protection to play their way...to not have to lose in game time to someone whose only goal is to harm others in such a manner.

This action now has brought the problem to the fore. There is no real good way to show the devs how this would break using forum polling. So my suggestion, a week long boycott would be a way for a silent/private vote to show no one but the devs the extent of the problem. It has never been my intention to claim a 'victory' or 'loss'...though it is obvious some will do that. However, the numbers will be seen by those that track such things, and you guys can have a real gauge to go by.

Zac posted this, today, just so folks that might have missed it https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=237761&p=3667897&viewfull=1#post3667897

Hi everyone,

In light of recent issues relating to the way a small collective of players have been approaching and targeting specific private groups and other community events such as charity livestreams, we wanted to reinforce an important part of the existing rules regarding in-game harassment that every player agrees to when creating their account.

We wanted to reiterate some examples regarding the rules of Player harassment. If a player has been blocked from a private group, or a group/individual has taken every step possible to remove a player from their gameplay, then attempting to circumvent this in any fashion is a serious offense and action will be taken accordingly. Attempting to re-establish contact with an individual who has blocked a player through secondary accounts or other methods of attempting to evade the block are against the rules. Action can and will be taken against both the accounts in question and the main accounts of players that we deem to be harassing players through this method.

In addition taking action such as seeking out and targeting specific players purely for the purpose of being disruptive, to cause offence, or to upset players within the community can also be considered harassment. A perfect example of this is deliberately attempting to disrupt public livestreams such as the charity ones mentioned before. This includes, but is not limited to, the capturing of footage and releasing it publically in an attempt to create upset or gain notoriety through the actions listed above.

We have previously stated, and it remains true, that Frontier are not able to manage group specific rules. Players considered to be breaking these group rule sets as established by group moderators should be removed from those groups by said moderators. In addition, running a livestream in Open does invite the potential for players to approach and impact your gameplay and running a livestream in which you are declaring war on another group and they come and take action against you is reasonable and should be expected.

Ultimately it’s about context. The support team can and will review these kinds of offences and will be taking action against accounts that set their entire purpose on harassing players and groups in this way. They are currently investigating a number of incidents and will be dealing directly with any parties involved.

The Frontier Support team take the protection and safety of the community very seriously, they strive to ensure that the game remains fair and friendly. If you feel the need to report an incident, please do get in contact with support via our support site at https://support.frontier.co.uk - please include as much detail of the event as possible.

You can see a copy of the rules that everyone signs up to by creating an account, including harassment, here:

Thanks for reading.

I will join this.

Reason: Online gaming in general has become a pretty sociopathic hobby. You're not only expected to be harrassed at some point but you're also expected to simply accept it. My personal take on this is that there is always a human being on the other side who deserves a bit of empathy and that anonymoty is not an excuse to indulge in uncivilized behaviour.

This has long been one of the better gaming communities, both players and developers. Let's keep it that way and nip this in the bud.

I fully endorse the right of unsavoury types to do unsavory things as I believe games need a healthy amount of drama, both IC and OOC, to spice what too often turns into boring and all too predictable feel-good roleplay (see the fuel rats). So I will be sure to play during the week of March 15th.
I will however watch with much amusement how this initiative progresses.

Then why are you commenting this at all?

Cause sometimes you just have to comment. The game allows PvP in open and groups, part of the game play is to know how to avoid being killed. Just cause your in a supposed non PvP does not mean you should stop being careful. I'm playing distant worlds kamzel group now and that has Möbius rules, but I'm careful still. Every one gets checked out.

Folks, could you take your dissension discussion to this link?

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=233922&p=3593702&viewfull=1#post3593702

I do not want this discussion to get derailed or unfocused.

I know it is going to be contentious and the thread will get sloppy if the 'I'm playing!' comments are included here.

From Reddit:

Smiling Dog Crew:

'Do you think this is the only group we have infiltrated? This is just the most high profile for us to get the most attention and salt and tears, rest assured we have plans of blowing up everywhere and anywhere, we're proving how broken this game is in every respect and I think our input into highlighting the problems of this game makes us worth our weight in salt

In a nutshell, SDC, a featured group by Frontier, has entered Mobius with the express purpose of ganking its players. FDev's response was 'this sucks...but is within the rules of the game.'

You want to show FD they should spend their time doing what you want. Dont you think its fair that others get a chance to say they'd rather see them workung in the actual game rather than the desires of a very small percentage of players? Serious question...

What a silly idea. Moaning about an attack in a group is just silly. Just kick the guys out and continue on. It's not the end of the world. There are plenty of more important things going on in the world to worry about than someone who bent the rules on a video game

It is not Silly when a group is in violation of the EULA and the company does nothing. I havent played in Mobius in over 2 months, but I am still        that FD has not done anything to punish the griefers.
I'll join in on this protest and occupy my time with Star Citizen for a week.
