ARX and the end of my financial support.

In-game earnings of Arx exists entirely as a pretense to shove Arx-related data in your face at all times. Nothing more.

and to get more adepts. simply having more cosmetics around should encourage other people purchasing cosmetics too. also, individuals who would ignore cosmetics altogether might indeed get interested if they are free, and are more likely to eventually make a purchase (and here's where those odd pricing schemes come in too).

in these models usually a very tiny portion of the population buys a lot and constitutes the bulk of the revenue. you can't squeeze much more out of that, what they spend is already ridiculous and there's just so many of them, so the sensible thing is to try and entice new candidates. you do that by making paintjobs be a thing for them too, by giving them a few for free. an exaggerated example would be handing out drugs in a school.

it's also a 'positive' feedback loop: the more you invest in the game (hardware, cosmetics, grind, community content, whatever) the more perceived value it will have for you, meaning the more you will desire to play which in turn motivates you to invest even more. those free paintjobs can suddenly have value for players that wouldn't have bothered before, and could contribute to start and keep that ball rolling.

I jumped into the game last night (had a bug free experience) and actually found the Arx system not very annoying at all. If anything, for me, it seems to have brought cosmetics into the game world slightly. The slow rate at which you earn them means I can't imagine ever grinding for them but I suppose every now and then will realise I've logged enough for a cosmetic "of my choice" which is actually a nice twist on the free paintjobs, FDev had divvied out now and again.

I feel like Arx works as a fairly low key and immersive advert for cosmetics, from inside the game. And as long as that isn't too in your face - which for me it isn't, especially compared to the launcher - I don't think anyone can fairly blame FDev for wanting to advertise because cosmetics help to support the game. I'm pleasantly surprised by the Arx system honestly.

I have a bunch of ships, several paint jobs, some kits, voices and bobbles. Being a purest though all bobbles and light-strings are gone now. Nice and clean. Focus is on the situation. Besides, when was the last time anyone (not flying in your wing) ever commented on your decorations? And I just don't set well with any voice but Verity anyway. So I side with the OP in that I don't expect to buy much more than the playtime racks up going forward.

Now, if the internet starts supporting more than a handful of pilots in an instance and we get some real PvP in combat zones and more player contact than "rarely" without crapping out than things might be different. A little bling could be put to work,

I agree that ARX are just a cash grab system that is used by free to play games, mobile games, and greedy AAA publishers trying to monetize their non-free games.
A lot of things are always priced just a bit more than what you can buy in a pack. This gets you to buy more ARX than you need, then you feel compelled to spend more because you have a balance of free ARX but the balance doesn't get you much without buying more packs, etc. The "bonus" currency to entice you buy bigger packs. IT'S ALL A CON.

Did you notice the new store pricing? COVAS voices used to be £5 individual purchase flat rate, now they are 8,850 ARX.
To buy £5 of ARX only gets you 8,820 ARX... coincidence? of course not.

I always prefer cash sales and have bought many items over the years to support the game, but doubt I will ever buy ARX packs, so good luck with your moral choices Frontier..

Of all the issues to complain about with this patch, you choose the 100% optional cosmetics... could you be more of a child?
I have not had any issues with the game performance wise, ever. Since beta, this game has crashed maybe 2 times for me. Other than some bad design choices this game is great! Certainly much better than that other game that has generated 100 times the income and 1/10th the product over 8 years and will never actually meet it's goals.. but that is another thread.
I hope you get your game issues sorted out in a timely manner so you can enjoy the game too!

Since you possibly read some of the OP and little else I will re-iterate: my issue is with the removal of buying store items for cash not the implementation of ARX. I am not sure where you see the "childishness" in discussing it since that is the purpose of the forum.

I don't like the idea of Arx either, but it does level the field. Console players have had to deal with it from the start. And as to the "have a few left over but not quite enough to buy something", well then just play for a few weeks and you'll get some extra free.
Cool let's have unlimited CMDR slots for PC players and get rid of the launcher! Also let's disable HUD colors! Leveling the field between PC and consoles is the most important thing ever!

They have lost all my financial support too. A set of skins that was 3 pounds previously (amongst many other packs of 6 paint jobs) now costs 9 pounds and 59p (16800 arx). Yes I know that the total in arx is for those 6 paint jobs is 2220x6 which is 13320 arx but lets face it anyway you cut the cake it is now 16800 arx if you want to purchase the same "skin pack" as previously at a lovely 300% mark up, I remember them saying oh it's no problem the skins won't cost any more than they did previously that now has to be the biggest lie that they have said to us their customers since the whole debacle of the free updates for life with founders backers.

Just goes to show you can't trust what they have to say. I don't think I'll be supporting them with purchasing anything in the future. (had been considering buying Jurassic park before this whole introduction of Arx but that is a big NO now). If they wanted to make more money off paint jobs etc then they should have left every paint job that had been made before the Arx introduction as the same price and then started to charge more for any of the new ones (and by new I mean totally new designs, not new as in oh the cutter didn't have a squadron paint job before lets put that in now and charge double or triple what the squadron paint jobs are for the ships that had it previously). Some people may think I have sour grapes about this whole thing and they are allowed to think that, but the price changes on the skins that were previously available at the prices they were compared to now is unacceptable.

I’m out too. Cherry on the cake when I saw they’re giving away the “limited edition “ Cobra III wire frames. A ten quid purchase back in the day. Nice one fellas.

Use Clear Pricing Policies

No in-game currency option works as well as the almighty dollar (or euro, pound sterling, yen, or RMB), at least when it comes to transparency. While you might make more by using an in-game currency like coins or tokens, you’ll be on the good side of your audience with in-game payments that directly match the real world amounts that will be taken from their linked credit cards or bank accounts.

Keep in-game currencies and real-world money clearly aligned in your store!

While it’s tempting and easy to create your own in-game currency -and it can help transport players to the in-game world – always be sure that you’re showing the actual amounts in real world currencies as well so your users can make informed decisions about how and where they spend their money in your game.
