As a 100% solo player, why do I want Horizons?

This is why I'm considering buying Horizons as a solo/pve player. Right now without Horizons the available missions feel a little slim. However, I'm not sure I want to pay full price for a few more mission options.

I'd recommend waiting for a another 6 months - the price will go down and there'll be at least another two updates worth of content added. On its own Horizons is currently very lacking unless you're the explorer type and just can't wait to take pretty pictures right now.

Horizons adds a new layer of depth to exploration - you no longer want to strip down your ship until it resembles a cockpit strapped onto an fsd. Instead you need to think about surviving multiple landings in hostile environments. When I started playing this morning, I 'woke up' to sunrise on a red planet with a spectacular nebula in the sky above me. Literally awesome.

I'll be the first to admit, I'm very sensitive when games that technically have solo play try to force me into group play. No, I don't want multiplayer, and no I'm not going to like it if I'll just try your version of it.
Anyway.
Looking at the website info Horizons and seasons, I see a lot of stuff geared towards multiplayer...wings...multicrew ships...etc.
So what is new for me? What will I be "locked out of" as a soloer?
I've tried reading the info on the official site...but lets be honest, the presentation of that info is terribad.
I'm not a hater or a troll...I want to want it.

I love Horizons for the planet landing, but I am a soloist all the way. Even in open I play only solo.

I do hope there will be some stuff in Horizons that is just generally cool, without being geared towards multiplayer.
I love the ability to access planets. I think it is awesome, but multi crew is of no interest to me unless I can hire npc crew.
The same goes for Wings. I would love the ability to have npc in a wing. Currently the addition of Wings does nothing for me at all.

Multi crew as well as Wings can be made useful for solo players also.
Please do so asap FD. It would mean a lot for our gameplay experience.

By the way, even CQC could be made interesting for soloists and seduce them into trying it in pvp if you added some kind of practice mode with bots.

As others said, Planetary Landings (incl. Trading or Mission Destinations on Planets) and the sometimes very nice scenery.
Other than that, to be honest your Question will be impossible to answer until end of the year.

If last year was a guide, don't expect anything spectacular for Solo Play (meaning either Solo Mode or simply playing "solo" a.k.a. alone in any other Mode).

We still see NPCs being bugged, getting stuck & blown up in Stations or do weird things. I mean often absolute basics, sometimes being fundamental issues >1 year old.
Can't quite imagine that we're soon getting a huge surprise-overhaul with fully funcational NPC Wings and/or NPC Multicrew.
I just don't expect that.

Thus, I think waiting it out won't do any harm. Worst-case you'll be picking it up at a discount and far better developed than what we have now (then at V2.4 or V2.5 maybe?).
Apart from the mentioned things - you're currently not really missing out on anything.
Just keep an eye on the major Updates, watch a few Player Videos and re-assess if you find something interesting for your playstyle.

I'm a solo player and I love Horizons. I love exploring the worlds in my SRV and checking out interesting looking terrain and features.

It is awesome in VR when you park your SRV right on the lip of a cliff that goes down 6km+ below and you look down!

The fact that I'm the only real human in my galaxy doesn't really enter my head as an issue especially as the further out from the bubble you go the fewer human players you'll come across anyway when in Open mode. Before I switched to Solo (for the increased framerate) I hadn't seen a real human player for weeks!

Unless you're struggling for cash I'd just get it. If you're short of cash maybe wait a while.

Planetary landings are beautiful. And you'll most likely definitely want it for looting and crafting, which is suppose to release Q1 2016, so even if it's a bit late that's less than three months away, at which point the price wouldn't have dropped yet. Even if they do release looting and crafting for the original game, I suspect many materials will be easier to find on planets so you'll want horizons anyway.

And later after that you'll get fighter launches. I'm pretty sure whilst these will be compatible with multi-crew, multi-crew won't be required, they could be AI controlled. These may be released for the base game or may not? Who knows, but if not that's another thing you're missing out on if you don't get horizons.

So admittedly, if you're not interested in planetary landings, there's no need to get horizons now, but you're going to want it soon anyway so why not take the plunge?

I would strongly recommend you wait. I'm an Open player but I still somewhat regret getting Horizons already. I am sure it will be worth the money once we have a few more updates, but planetary landings themselves are worth maybe, at most, £10, not the £30 they're asking. The tech is impressive and the visuals are stunning, but there is almost no planetside content right now.

I can totally see where you are coming from. I've played in both open and solo, but mostly play solo simply because I don't like the pressure of dealing with open/multiplayer. When I get to an outpost, I sometime park and go let the dogs out or read up on my next mission. Doing this in open, takes away a spot from another player trying to land. I'm not always a fast player, I take my time.

I've been disappointed in how the games expansions have progressed in "Wings" did nothing for me and now multi-crew. :( What about us anti social people who don't want to talk to anyone and fly in our bubble wrapped ships? Oh unless multi crew mean I can buy a droid to work for me :p

It seems that all they are doing is expansions that mostly benefit open play. Maybe this is what they are trying to do, I don't know. Don't get me wrong, I've love Planetary landings, it's been a blast. I just wish they would put some more thought into stuff that can benefit both groups of play instead of what seems to be catering to one side. But who knows, maybe that's were the money is. After all if it wasn't for all kinds of people playing, there wouldn't be a game to play. I will continue to play quietly waiting and hoping for more general releases. Like missions, ships, walk around my ship, get out and go to common area's in stations.

Aside from the views and being able to land (and I like it a lot) there isn't much to do... the new missions don't work very well so you might as well wait... and from what has been said it seems this whole season is gonna be full of multiplayer crap. If I knew better I wouldn't had bought Horizons until late in the year.

If landing on planets and the other announced content is not enough to dish out the money for Horizons then it would be wise to buy Horizons later in a sale.
I expect that if things to enhance solo will be added during this second season then this won't be exclusive to Horizons anyway.
You will most likely get this stuff for the base Elite Dangerous package too.

OP, unless you are a major ED fan or you have a sum of money to not worry spending then you are best to wait a year for the sale. Unless you really want to land and drive about a rocky planet...

Yeah I would definitely wait and see if the updates for horizon's are any good. I got bored with planetary landings after the first week. With lack of credit incentive for driving around on the planet I found myself doing the same things before Horizons both in solo and open.

I haven't failed to be entertained by a planetary landing yet. Whenever I get the chance, I dock at surface outposts, because I just find it quite a bit more entertaining than docking at a Coriolis Starport :)

not yet. just planets without atmospheres.

the rest are coming soontm

my money coming "soon"(tm).

I remember landing on planets in Frontier Elite was kinda fun. I tried the mining and got nothing but water. So I spent a whole night, literally till 4 am, flying, scooping ( and it was much harder to scoop on gas giants back then), jumping out 3 or 4 hundred light years and putting a mining rig on a remote planet. I remember you had to leave it for hours before it would tell you anything. Went to bed, got up around 3pm and checked it. 2xLiquid Water, 1xMetal Alloys or something crap like that. The trouble was, it was incredible tedious trying to pick up the mining rig in the ship. Too ages and was incredible frustrating and... not really balanced with profit versus effort.

Hopefully EDH makes it better.
