Ascendency update delayed "....release date of Ascendancy to the week commencing 28th"

I was talking about the Type-8.
... and I wasn't, so I'm not sure why you responded to me then?

Frontier seems to have said early access for ARX lasts three months so that is the likely reason why the T8 would not be available on launch day for the update. Saying that, it should be November 7 so it's not like it'd be that much longer.

The hell? Does that mean it's on the 28th or sometime between the 28th-Nov 1?

Could be much worse.

During the "Beyond" era, FDev used to say stuff like "due for release in the autumn" which, inevitably, ended-up meaning they just got it out the door before everybody went home for christmas.... and then ED was mayhem for a couple of weeks, due to bugs and exploits, and there was nobody in the office to deal with it.

I still have fond memories of using 7 abrasion blasters to extract multiple chunks of ore from a single outcrop all through the holiday. 😘

... and I wasn't, so I'm not sure why you responded to me then?

Because the part I quoted from you, in your message, was replying to a previous message of mine, so it was safe to assume it was intended as a reply to me, and in my previous message I wasn't talking at all about the Mandalay, so your mention of it seemed misplaced.

Just to be clear, this is a breakdown of how I see the interaction:

Me: Regardless of the fact that the new update has been pushed to the 28th, if the Type-8 was supposed to be available for purchase with credits on the 22nd, it ought to still be available on the 22nd as its addition to the game is unrelated to Ascendency.
You: Maybe they don't want to mess with the code twice.
Me: I am not sure it would consitute a mess, as every bit related to the Type-8 is already in place, and early adopters can already purchase it from shipyards in the game. So in order for non-early adopters to be able to purchase the Type-8 in game, the necessary modifications to the code (which, again, appears to be completely indepedent from Ascendency) are likely to be minimal.
You: [Adding the Mandalay] would still require additions of some code [...]
Me: I can believe it might, but that seems unrelated to the point I was bringing forward.

Frontier seems to have said early access for ARX lasts three months

The Python MkII was introduced for ARX on May 7th, but its availability for credits was made to coincide with 18.09 (so Sept 19th, more than four months later), this three months period that you mention is then something that was decided recently, I would guess.

Thank you for your reply, I hope we get some official communication clearing these things.

Maybe I just got confused then because I'm pretty sure people also were talking about the Mandalay in here. My brain has been operating on a wonky sleep pattern (and not enough of it) for some time now, anyway...

On that front, I can actually point to -
The Python Mk II is available in shipyards for all Odyssey owners on PC from 7 August

While the T8 followed three months later on that same date of August 7.

... but I also am no developer and only have a crash course in coding (with, really, a teacher that wasn't very good), while I don't know what it's like to work with spaghetti code either. So, you may take those guesses with a grain of salt.
Maybe take the spaghetti with a grain of salt too. :)

It's probably just a malicious rumor, but who knows..

So Ascendancy has been delayed, but the Type-8 will become available for credits on Oct 22nd still, correct? The Type-8 isn't related to Ascendancy, right?

Curious where you got the idea it would be available on 22nd? All we have from FDev, as far as I know, is the stream just before T-8 went into early access on Aug 7th, where they said "3 months", making a 7th Nov date the only official one.

Did I miss further info from FDev?

Also the online store still features the Ruby items which are still going to be removed on Oct 21st.

They said they'd remove them from store on 21st, so.. I'd expect them to be there until then?

As far as why Mandalay release is tied to PP2.0, it's probably that the code for both is in the same changeset, and splitting into two releases would be 2x amount of work for a release (product people, managers, coders, communicators and testers) as well as more chance of introducing bugs. A lot of things about development are "why don't you just..." without people realising what a load of stuff is hiding under that "just".

Tannoy biiing Powerplay personel will henceforth receive government kale rations at new communal canteens, which will be installed where the bar and snack court used to be -- this will curb the recent pandemic of food comas - your power cares for you.

The delay addresses an NPC balancing issue which must mean the NPC's keep falling over... probably from too much drink. That suggests drinks and Kumo burgers will be available at the bars. 😜

I would like Frontier to leave the falling over NPC's in game, that would be hilarious to see. :ROFLMAO:
Hope they improve the hired pilots while they are at it. My Elite pilot has not been on a ship for years.
