Asian Animal Additions

It's worth noting that after the Wetlands pack came out, one of the forum members tallied it up that Asia was the most represented continent in the game -I apologize that I don't remember who it was but it was very insightful. Now with the Conservation pack, which features three more Asian animals, all of which were heavily requested (or type of animal requested in the case of the Siamang), I'm feeling like there's even less need. Not negated completely of course, but I'm just feeling like if Asia is revisited it need to be done very lightly.

Looking over my own wishlist of 50 habitat animals, there's only 3 of them on it from Asia. The highest one, the Lar Gibbon, is not even top 20. The only other two that make that list are the Markhor and the Saiga Antelope. This does not include birds or exhibit animals - definitely plenty of birds to visit and a Cobra for sure for an exhibit. So I'm wondering what the general feeling is? Feel free to share your top handful or so if you'd like. I know the Raccoon Dog and Pallas Cat get mentioned a bit, as do other species of Leopards.

Edit: I did want to add, I definitely want the Wolverine and know that it does extend to Asia, so I guess that's a big one. It's actually my #2 wanted animal now. But I tend to group it more to Europe and North American than Asia.

I agree that Asia has the most representation. I don't think we need any more Asian habitat animals, but ones I'd like to get include the Golden Snub-Nosed Monkey, Lar Gibbon (admittedly less of a priority now that we're getting the Siamang), Saiga Antelope, Takin, Tanuki, and Sloth Bear.

I think I am that person hahaha

I just want a game with diverse animals. I definitely think they need to boost Australia and South America for options in themed areas. They are very apparently lacking right now. More importantly, there are just a bunch of cool creatures from the Amazon and a few more marsupials that would make the game fun.

There are still some cool animals that I want from Asia. It's the largest continent with many diverse biomes. There are some neat monkeys, and we don't have many herbivores from that region. I don't care if that tilts the scale further. I'm not sure they should come at the expense of the two most underrepresented regions, but I'm fine with more animals from Asia.

It's a little bit funny to me when people describe the counts of animals from different places as if it is a measure of the importance of the region. I just want them to make a great game with a bunch of neat animals to play with and learn about. I'm more concerned about the lack of diversity of groups of animals (i.e. monkeys, birds, and weird small mammals) than whether or not continents are "balanced."

I think there are still A LOT of animals from Asia that would be cool additions to the game, specially from India (really underrepresented), China and Indonesia. Of the top of my head:

  • Sumatran tiger
  • Sumatran rhino
  • Gaur
  • Blackbuck
  • Lowland anoa
  • Sichuan/Golden takin
  • Chinese Goral
  • japanese serow
  • Pheasants (lots of them), tragopans, himalayan monal
  • Golden snub nosed monkey
  • Lion tailed macaque
  • Langurs
  • Any other gibbon species
  • Mouse deer
  • Chital/Sambar/Barashinga/Pere David/Sika deers
  • Muntjacs
  • Mandarin duck
  • Greater and lesser adjuntant
  • Asian water monitor
  • Chinese alligator
  • Raccoon dog
  • Wolverine
  • Palla's cat
  • Fishing cat
  • Phillipine tarsier
  • Indian mongoose
  • Visayan warty pig
  • Indian cobra
  • Striped hyena
  • Caracal
  • Indian leopard
  • Markhor
  • Saiga antelope
  • Nilgai
  • Sloth bear
  • indian bustard
  • Middle East stuff: hamadryas baboon, arabian oryx, sand cat, nubian ibex, dromedary camel
  • Flying stuff: flying foxes, phillipine eagle, great hornbill, birds of paradise, white backed vulture, bali mynah, victoria crowned crane, steller sea eagle

Granted, some are more common and "important" that others, but honestly there are tons of animals from Asia that will still make fine (and some even necesary) additions to the game.

Yes, thank you! Sorry I forgot who it was, but I really appreciate you did that. And that was before this next pack, where Frontier's taken the three most requested Asian animals and put them all in one pack.

As evidence by other posts already, there will always be a want for more animals from any part of the world, this thread just highlighting Asia specifically. I did forget the Takin gets a lot of requests. But in looking over these responses and the responses to the link thread above, there's not that many high profile Asian animals left. Which, packs don't have to be completely high profile, but at this stage in the game I'm feeling like the animals put in upcoming packs should be more generally wanted by the community than not.

It'd be like Frontier saying that they want to give us another NA pack but a scenery pack - not a bad idea in itself, but the animals would be a bobcat, white tailed deer, possum, and raccoon. All of them have supporters, but only one has a good number of them. It would be hard to really market the pack with mostly non-popular (as opposed to actively not popular) animals - for this NA but also for any of the world.

Saiga all the way! I'm so excited about the Przwalski's Horse, because my Big Zoo Dream is to one day have a mixed herd.

Birds! Especially pheasants and the mandarin duck.

Pallas cat, takin or yak, and tanuki. I wouldn't say no to a few more monkeys and ungulates. Maybe a habitat turtle?

Cobra.

So. Quite a few animals still on the wishlist, but it IS the biggest continent. Clearly Oceania needs more attention, but I don't think that the two should be mutually exclusive.

Asia as a continent is well represented atm, we cannot really complain in this regard, but if an animal is quite popular, it probably would make its way into PZ, no matter if it is from Asia or Africa or anywhere else and that is fine.

I still have some species from Asia on my list, but they are not anywhere near the top of the meta wishlist so they might never come:

Raccoon Dog
Golden Takin
Lion-tail Macaque
Markhor

Raccoon dog, Japanese serow, blackbuck, Sumatran tiger, Himalayan monal - there are still a few species that I think would be worth bringing in.

Personally I don't think 'representation by continent' is really a good measure anyway. Each animal should be considered on its own merits - so what if at the end of the day Africa or Asia has a hundred animals? Doesn't matter.

Literally this is the best idea for a small pack ever 🤩 I would buy it without any hesitation.
imagine expanding it to animal pack with musk ox, wolverine and walrus and we have solid general Asia animal pack 🤩

I have 100 more interesting ideas for another Asian pack and I am sure I would never be disappointed with any pack that will be released for us.

But for me personally there are 4 Asian species that are very close to my heart and are still not present in the roster.
Their presence in the game would bring me a lot of joy and DLC bring a mix of my favorite 2 Asian countries India and China would be a real treat to have.

Golden takin

I can agree with the discussed sentiment of Asia having the most representation, and that other regions are in more need of animals.
However, the Asian representation feels very regionally concentrated, and not well spread over Asia as a whole.
Personally, I'd like to see India and the Himalayans covered a bit more. Animals from the northern part are always appreciated, the same goes to the near-east region.

My personal wishes would include
  • a Langur (Francois or Gee's golden langur are quite beautiful), so we have another small monkey
  • a dedicated Indian monkey, e.g. the Lion-tailed Macaque or any other - I struggle with finding a regionally fitting species in dedicated Indian areas
  • an Indian ungulate: muntjacs would be a unique addition as we lack small ungulates, the Blackbuck would simply be beautiful, the Nilgai a different kind of antelope
  • at least one, preferably two himalayan ungulates: Markhor or Thar as the first, Yak or Takin as the second
  • A second species of deer: the Red deer is just very iconic, the Père David's deer would be a very unique choice
  • Animals from the Taiga: the wolverine
  • A porcupine - although a non-asian species would also be d'accord for me
  • The dromedary - a very obvious wish
  • And lot's more of exhibit species ....

If I try to limit my Asian wishes:

Top priority:
Fixed models for Malayan Tapir and Bactrian Camel so they would actually appear useful.

Must-haves:
Blackbuck
A common in captivity tropical Asian monkey
Basically, any bird - With Victoria Crowned Pigeon being an example of a unique bird that should be doable without flying mechanics.

If support last longer than expected:
Père David’s deer
Reeve's Muntjac
Golden or Mishmi Takin
Chinese Alligator
More monkeys
More birds!
