Asp Scout- what to do ?

So there's an Asp Scout stored at my adopted homebase.

At the moment, It's used to store some modules.

I've really tried to re-engineer it to become a fighter or a miner or a transport, but honestly, it's just disappointing. Now it did get a size buff some time aback, but it was rumored that the ship was going to get some kind of additional buff?

I'm reluctant to just sell it off. Is there any info around about future changes to this ship?

And has anybody made a useful build with it?

I use it for multicrew scavening, including megaship pirating and is cheap and fun. Don't sell it. It is underrated, not really up to youtubers (since you can't joust other ships for 5h) but for people with skills is usable.

excellent salvage ship, although the recent limpet bug that destroys your canisters make it difficult. good mission runner. really good smuggler.

throw some mines with feedback cascade and missiles to take quickly take out external modules on any attacker. no bother trying to survive a duel (not that you can't). get drag munitions on a missile so take advantage of the scouts slower top speed, tag an attacker to get some distance then bounce.

That's probably the only thing this ship is useful for although there are cheaper alternatives for that purpose.

The Asp S. is probably the worst ship in the game. It will hopefully get a balance pass in a future update... until then it remains useless.

All the ships in this game are rated by personal opinion... there is no best ship or good or bad ship! Yes some ships do some things better but a good pilot can make any ship do anything. You know the FDL for example is great for PvP and PvE combat ship but hard to master... however people have gone exploring and mining in it and I know a guy who's effectively made loads of money mining in his FDL he has 3 one for combat, one for mining and one for exploring all engineered. He just loves the look and sound.

Never flown the ASP Scout but love the ASP explorer.

I've tried harder than most people.

It's still worthless.

When it was introduced, it was meant to be a "cheaper combat variant" to the AspX...

Only it doesn't really "shine" in any one way- it's simply flavorless by comparison. It feels like a copy of a copy of a copy.

Most just actually find out when they use it then trade up for the AspX or another ship that does a bit better in one way or another.

It's a really good example for why ship roles should have been a thing, instead of making everything "multirole". If it's all gonna stay "multirole", then why bother making "copies" of the same ships with small variations to begin with?

Keep the ASP Scout in storage for now, Sandro Sammarco said in a live stream he has plans for that ship.

I'd sell it. It's not difficult to rebuy it. Sandro said there are plans for it, but nothing else, no time frame, so it could happen the next update or well... SOONTM...;)

I used to like the Asp Scout, it's maneuverability was nice but it was sooooooooooooooooooooo slow. When flying down near the planets surface it seemed like it took you forever to get anywhere.

The problem with the AspS, IMO, is that for everything that it does okay, there's an alternative that does something (possibly a different thing) really well - and is usually much cheaper.
Added to that, once you've maxed-out an AspS for a given role it'll be okay but you'll always find that there's something else which would be a better choice.

Most recently, I was determined to use my AspS as a mat's scavenger, used it for a couple of weeks and it was okay (there's that word again), but in the end it was obvious it would be better to just spend a few extra credits, buy another AspX and gain another slot, more slot-capacity and a much bigger jump-range.

It's kind of funny that most people seem to see the DBX as the inferior, low cost alternative to the AspX.
And the DBS is infinitely better as a light combat variant of the DBX. I guess Lakon wins some and loses some...

Very true... I used one back when I could only afford a single ship. I liked it maneuverability over the explorer but it lacked in speed and there was (is) no compelling reason to own one over another ship.

Only 2 small 2 medium ship with a 4 PD, best hardness, and is the most agile of the group, and I've yet to figure out how to make those advantages work for it. Mine ices up windows at an idle and occasionally gets used as a bubble jumper when I feel bad for it.

4 medium hardpoints to take better advantage of its distributor would be nice. Then move its cockpit position about 20 metres back so it’s more central with the ship like a viper (rather than sticking out screaming “kill me!”)

Make its life support class 4 cos symmetry is important....

With station storage near max, I still use my AspSs' as cheaper module storage ships.. hmm
