ASP variant thread

Is it only me who's a bit miffed at the talk of ship variants?

I don't want the remainder of ship slots taken up with variants, I'd much prefer FDev mine their own back catalogue and resurrect some of the old ships, or just give us wholly new ships, between and around the sizes of Asp and Python and above.

That's where I feel there's a proper gap to fill.

I don't have an issue with it personally, there is a lot in a ship like the ASP that it could almost do with a little variance. I hope that soon the AI will be a lot more mean on people shipping expensive goods (sense) which will start making ships like the ASP better for flying large gold shipments for example rather than a Type 9
 
It would be nice to see some focused variants.

Eagle Racer MkII
Speed: 300
Hardpoints: X2 S1
Internal Compartments: 2+2+1
Utility Mounts: X2

Imperial "Strider" Courier
Speed: 250
Hardpoints: X1 Large (Belly) X2 Small (Pylons)
Jump Range: +50%

Cobra "Hedgehog" MkIII
X4 Small Mounts on Wingtips [Mirror bottom hardpoints to top of ship]
X4 Small Mounts front & below cockpit replacing the two medium hardpoints
Speed: 260
Reduce 1 compartment to S3

Or hell, why not specialized ships with locked hardpoints.

Fer-De-Lancer Missile Destroyer that could missile ammunition as double.

Imperial courier E-War ship, reducing sensor range to anyone within it's sensor range to double it's lock time but sacrifices X2 utility slots.
 
I'm wary of too many variants myself. I wouldn't want FD to go down the road of having ten actual ships and ninety variants. That would feel wrong.
