ASP vs ulture

I have now tried the ASP and it is much better at combat. 6 pulse lasers kills the enemy vessels real fast and you have enough cargo/power for the shield cells. If you activate and turn off shield cells in right menu you can stock up on loads of them. When one lot been used deactivate it and active another bank of them.

Vulture hands down, two large pulse alone melt most stuff.

Vultures weapon loadout isn't as good as the ASP. 2 small and 4 medium pulse lasers is better than 2 large. And with shield cells the Vultures superior shielding means nothing.

I fly both. There is no comparison. The Asp is a big lardy tub of please don't shoot me. I don't take that death trap anywhere near the kind of hot spots I fly my Vulture in while giggling.

For combaat vulture > asp. Asp has weak shields, poor agility & turning, and not having ANY large hardpoints puts it at a clear disadvantage when trying to kill anacondas, pythons, clippers, FdLs, dropships, assault ships, and gunships.

I've had both. The vulture is agile, has two good weapons and decent shields.
.
The ASP is slower, cumbersome, has 6 weak weapons and poor shields. However 6 weapons kills shields and hull faster than 2 large mountings, the ASP can take 4 x A0 Shield Boosters, and I have three lots of shield cells installed too. I only have one lot activated in the right hand menu at a time. The result is its very difficult to take my shields down. 9 shield cells and 6 pulse lasers is very, very, effective.
.
So in the end the ASP with the right setup is a better killing machine than the vulture.

The Asp (much as I like it) isn't in the same combat class as a Vulture, the Asp PD won't run 6 lasers of any kind for a useful time span, the Vulture can run class 3 pulse long enough to do useful target damage, my favoured Asp loadouts were a mix of m-cannon turrets and gimballed pulse, the Asps a great multi-role ship a decent fighter and a decent cargo hauler the Vulture is a great fighter and bu**er all else ;)

The Asps biggest issue is that it's not particularly fast and/or agile and it's a fairly large vessel (big target), take it to a CZ and it'll feel really BIGGGG! ;)

This is false. Small weapons are penalized 33% when shooting a medium ships, and a further 33% when shooting a large ship. Medium weapons are penalized 33% when shooting a large ship. Large weapons are not penalized at all.

It's been thoroughly tested 1 Large > 2 medium, and 1 medium > 2 small weapons. So 2 Large > 2 medium + 4 small. Also, larger weapons are more energy efficient. 4 small gimballed pulse lasers will use 4.76 MJ of weapon capacitor per second. 2 medium gimballed pulse lasers use 3.78 MJ of weapon capacitor per second. 1 Large gimballed pules laser uses 2.98 MJ of weapon capacitor per second. Not only are larger weapons stronger per shot and per unit time, but they also use less energy per second allowing you to shoot longer.

Shield Cells alone won't help you kill stuff. Most small and medium hardpoint weapons suffer penalties when dealing with heavy armor. The Class 3 Pulse still eats through that.

Also, combat is more outmaneuvering than outgunning - and the Vulture does both (as soon as you kill heavier things than Adders anyway - which you can as well ram in a Vulture and be quicker about the kill than an Asp with weapons)

There's also only around half as much to hit on a Vulture - and it's agility comes in handy in both offence and defence.

For all-round purposes, the Asp is clearly the better vessel though.
Then again, for my personal kind of smuggly all-round, I prefer the Cobra simply because its top speed and boost are ace and I can spare two of the small hardpoints, utility slots and some cargo space when only doing smuggling missions, collecting assassination missions along the way to deal with after changing ships.

Had a blast smuggling rares in an Asp while hunting an occasional bounty though because the jump range is superb. But it's not exactly ideal to hunt and kill larger ships.

So, next to exploration, the Asp excells at armoured long-range trade/smuggling.

I'd like to see a decent Vulture pilot dogfight a decent pilot in a shieldless stealth Scout. Then again, the outcome might largely depend on whether or not the Vulture can adjust its outfitting for that particular match.

i think you are the first coming to this conclusion - but grats for mastering the Asp in combat! that needs some serious piloting skills (which i'm lacking). but yes, the A-punch of a Asp is amazing, and small weapons don't get a size penalty against shields, so you should be 20-25% percent more "effective" - if you are able to fire all hardpoints at the enemy (which i'm not in an Asp). if you are good with fixed weapons, try railguns :)
and yes, scb meta rules.

I Love my ASP... have been on an Exploration jaunt with it since April 7th of this year and am now on my way back home... and for THIS job... nothing beats the Asp.. its the KING of explorers (for now) but i am under no illusions.. in Combat.. Vulture is Hands down better.. that not to say the Asp is a total slouch in the DPS department.. she does pretty well and can actually survive situations that appear dire.. but numbers dont lie. the above is one such example.

I have been trying it out all evening and a vulture with 2 x pulse lasers (gimballed and $140,000 each) is not as good as 6 lesser gimballed pulse lasers on the ASP. The ASP takes down shields on ships far faster and destroys the hull far quicker. I am not hallucinating there is a clear difference.
.
I gonna try vulture without one of the A0 shield boosters I usually give it so I can load it up with shield cells.

What ships are you shooting? For shooting eagles and cobras, the asp might do better. For shooting elite anacondas? Good luck with that.
