General / Off-Topic Assange confirms Russia NOT involved in the DNC leak

No one is saying Russia are angels. Far from. We should always be alert, but we can be friends. Throwing out false accusations, not showing any evidence for it, and then expelling Russian diplomats is quiet a dumb thing. And let's not forget the west's involvement in toppling the Ukrainian gov. A close ally, and neighbor to Russia. That is quiet a dangerous thing.
Hang on, if JA were being used by Russia to leak info then isn't this exactly what he would say?

Is it not suspicious that only anti Clinton emails leaked just before an election?

Does JA know more about who fed him the info than the NSA, CIA and FBI? I thought the point of WikiLeaks was to anonymously leak?

As to Ukraine, the west made overtures to the Ukraine for closer economic ties, to eventually lead to closer political ties.

The deal was done until the Ukrainian president ripped it up at the last minute. People marched, and yes maybe the west egged them on a bit especially after the president cracked down overly hard on protestors.

However it's undeniable that Russia invaded eastern Ukraine and defacto annexed Crimea. They claim it was local Ukrainians resisting the new government, but they looked suspiciously well trained and equipped for irregular militias.

After months of denying it, sowing just enough confusion to prevent the west from taking action, Russia has all but admitted it's actions. They are probably the leading practitioners of information warfare at the moment.

The Russians using WikiLeaks to meddle in the US elections is exactly their MO.

They may well have bitten off more than they can chew with Trump......

Yeah, its a bit annoying. They shot down a passenger plane with russian AA missiles, it was kinda big thing over here. But I guess republicans now support that too. "It were only a few kids", or "Hillary shot the missile!", or whatever bizarre excuse they have for supporting Russia.

He's Norwegian, which makes this more painful for me

NYtimes, Washingotn Post, ABC.. Great source of news. Come on man.. It's the same garbage as the big media outlets here in Norway

We Nordic types are supposed to be well educated, and have the best free press in the world. Unfortunately we're also experiencing a flood of disinformation coming from Russia, and some of us swallow it hook, line and sinker.

The fact that he's making excuses for Russia having the right to control their "near abroad" neighbors is just infuriating. It's Russia's view of geopolitics alright, but that means that essentially shreddog is willing to sell us Finns down the river to keep The Bear peaceful... and if not us, then the poor Ukrainians at least.

Ok...

No Assange didn't have any proof, of course not. More like a gut feeling. But I believe him when he say they had an informant, 27 years old inside the DNC. You don't think it is quite a shocking coincidence he ends up getting shot in the back all of a sudden?

Ok...

I'm now confused. Is acting without evidence a dumb thing or not? Or is it acceptable when dealing with Hillary because... well... Hillary!

i would be surprised if you hadn't a fair share of us propaganda too. it's all over the place.

that's called 'finlandization' for historical reasons ;-)

well, eu seemed to have no problem supporting the extreme right uprising in ukraine. one could as well be glad there's a bear around willing to stop fascism to bloom in or near europe, even if only for spurious reasons and self-interest. of course war is never the solution, but war has already started the moment one power helps flipping a legitimate regime in a foreign country, specifically a country in the direct sphere of influence of another power. what else would you expect?

Its easy. If shreddog believes it it is not dumb. If he doesnt believe it is dumb. And probably related to butthurt liberals. Maybe safe spaces and millenials too.

How did this suddenly become controversial? Are we really pretending Putin wants a string West and we want him in control as long as possible?
Because it's a trouble to them, and so as for the various EU partyes whom in russia's pocket.

(sarcastic) So yeah... To think Russia trying to affect other countries policy is beyond imagination. After all the fact Le pen, admitted he got money from russia is a clear sing of their neutrality right?

I dont even get the issue. Russia tried to influence your election. As they did in numerous European countries.

There has been no evidence to prove this. Just rumour mongering from the CIA and other agencies who have an agenda.

What I find more hilarious is American politicians screaming and crying about supposed Russian interference, when they should look closer to home before pointing fingers. American governments have constantly interefered in the governments of other countries, and still do so to this day. Pot, kettle, black.

Its all a hoax. Russia would never get involved in the dealings of other countries...

You know... Somehow the counter interested party we did not do it claims not convincing me. Because? They are counter interested... And naturally in cases like this they will do anything to lie it down, try to make it looks like insignificant.

You mean like throwing the accusation the leak was an inside job with no facts or proof to back it up at all, yet spreading it around on the internet anyway just because it confirms your worldview?

There's no reason for Assange to lie, unless he is involved in some elaborate huge plot by the Russians over years of work to get a reputation as a trusted whistleblower. All to get Trump elected! Really? The biggest pro American ever to walk this Earth.

The FBI, or CIA or whatever agency responsible for the investigation should easily be able to show some evidence for their allegations. Anything. They only published a vague report with zero evidence in it, before deporting the Russian diplomats and their families in the middle of Christmas holidays.

Kind of like how they "suddenly" reactivated the email investigation one week before the election (tanking her polls) and then going "Sorry, sorry, our mistake, nothing to see here!".

That's just crazy talk! Assange is just a patriotic citizen who has always been respected and admired by the American conservatives.

Assange is an Australian, I'm not sure what he'd have to be patriotic about in America.

They have accustomed us with their lies. Remember the "weapons of mass destruction" of Saddam Hussein

There's no reason for Assange to lie

Except;

1. He hates Clinton, who is the one who has been trying to have him extradited.

2. He hopes that by sucking up to Trump he can get some sort of quid pro quo and get out of that embassy.

3. He enjoys the attention, adulation, and praise of the little army of followers he has cultivated, and going after an establishment figure was a way to make them all sing his name again.

the WMD debacle was due to politicians twisting and pressuring the intelligence agencies to get the result they wanted to hear rather than the cold objective proof.

any shred of evidence that pointed to WMDs was seized upon and any evidence against ignored.

it's called confirmation bias.

I'm not saying the intelligence agencies were blameless but the fault lies as much with the politicians as the agencies.

of course we now have trump and co, refusing to believe any evidence that points to Russian involvement in the DNC hack.

remember that Russia is very happy to lie through it's teeth.

"no Russian soldiers in eastern Ukraine, they are all local militias....."

"MH17 was downed by a Ukrainian ground attack plane trying to shoot down Putin and not a BUK launcher from Russia"

1. has Clinton called for his extradition? iirc there is no extradition request by the states and all the calls for his prosecution have come from the right, for example Sarah Palin, but nobody in an actual position to actually get an extradition order.

2. The US has no direct influence on him being in the embassy. he is hiding there after jumping bail in the UK to avoid extradition to Sweden on suspicion of sexual assault. his has stated that the Swedish extradition is ruse to extradite him to the US. if the US were to officially say they weren't going to extradite him, he would have no reason to continue hiding in the embassy and would have to face the music for first the accusations in Sweden (which he may or may not be guilty of) and for jumping bail and contempt of court in the UK (which he clearly is guilty of).

3. yes

trump only attends one of the daily intelligence briefings a week because he's "a smart guy" (his own words).

apparently he "knows things others don't about hacking" and he really "gets cyber".

maybe, having been told he's attend they asked for more time to rework the presentation to take out the big words and put more pictures in. :)
