I sort of like the game, but it's got the most god awful parkour mechanic...the amount of times I've been chasing/been chased and killed because I've pushed in a direction to do something and the damn wit does something completely different. Massively frustrating at times and the most stupid control layout going, Batman AA and AC + Shadow of Mordor or a joy to play and run about in comparison. Badly optimised as well, the aforementioned games all run 60fps at 1080p full detail on my pc yet ACBF has to have quite a lot of options on medium or even off....despite that it often dips below 60 fps.

It's both hilarious and frustrating to see Edward failing at combat due to the awkward control. The interaction with the environment is buggy to say the least. And yes, engine doesn't seem to be optimised for PC at all.

No Kraken...but you can harpoon whales, sharks and other dangerous...and endangered... species from a rowing boat with a clear conscience [yesnod]

I just love the authentic sea shanties....

Funny thing is I'm getting mixed feelings when I harpoon a shark. It's not real ofc, but the moral feelings from it are.

First time I NEEDED to kill to get crafting material I was like, "no way dude" not gonna do that!!! then ofc you must because game mechanic, but I agree it's not as fun as killing guards :D

Aye, Ubisoft took some stick about the whaling and general killing of various animal species for crafting materiel....very strange indeed, considering the general disregard for killing other humans in games :)

The game was set during a time where every oil lantern on the planet was run on whale oil...and besides slavery and sugar production as a side industry of that beacon of humanity, whaling was the worlds premier business...just as a bit of perspective.

Haha yeah! :D But it's a great little game and I'm actually quite pleased overall with Ubisoft still producing single player games like this, compared to other companies that claim gamers aren't interested in single player games... ;)

Too right. I love the AC games and Black Flag is my second favourite (fave is Victorian London, but then I'm a Steampunk!) and hoping to get my hands on the new one over xmas.

Getting very impatient for Skull & Bones :D

Origins is awesome. I don't even particularly like the Assassins Creed franchise, and still think it's one of the best adventure games I've played since TW3.

I would also compare it to TW3, same quality in my humble opinion.

I know, that was also my reasoning to just do it :D

Skull and Bones = MP and PVP not interested at all.

That's a big statement. TW3 is very large shoe to fill.
Funny thing is the devs looked at TW3 and used it as a big inspirational source when they developed Origins apparently.

I own and have played both extensively. In my opinion TW3 is better in some areas, and Origins is better in some areas and the end result is two games pretty evenly matched in terms of awesomeness. There are fanbois on either side of the aisle of course, but for my money I'm happy to have both sitting in my library.

Indeed, i remember the quote before origins release, i dont think they came close and struggled to see the inspiration. Mind you bioware said the same thing about bring witcher inspired pre release of Andromeda with similar results.

To my mind witcher 3 is one of the finest games ever made and inspired or not no one has gotten close in my opinion :)

Have you played Origins? The world is far more interesting, and the combat system blows TW3 out of the water. The only areas where TW3 is definitively better is the main character/overall writing edges out ACO/deeper RPG systems. Longer campaign, comparing vanilla to vanilla.

Yes i have though in fairness only about half of it. Its a fjne game and one of the better one in this series. I will agree about the combat, combat isnt witcher series strongest point. I "suppose" much of this comparison depends on our tolerances for open world gaming, mine tends to be quite low but i felt witcher 3 hid that open world thing much better. As to your point on better worlds again its apples and oranges, horses for courses really .... but i feel witcher 3 has risen the bar very high indeed when it comes to world building.

Strangely enough, Black Flag and Origins have the same director in Ashraf Ismail.... probably why they are so similar in gameplay and also why I enjoy both. There's a nice interview at Gamespot with Ashraf...Linky

TW3 is still far beyond the AC series in the realm of pure story telling. Emotional investment in both the story and characters for me is where TW3 outshines everything else.... even the emotional trainwreck moment Tali swan dived off that cliff in Mass Effect 3 :)

Never tried ACO after ACBF i will give it a try, however ACBF is a really good game and it got me hooked due to the ship battles and pirate stuff, the story is also good and keeps you going.

It is a little wierd the way people react to historical views of hunting, I tried to get someone to read 20,000 leagues under the sea and they noped out after the tasty endangered species buffet served up by Captain Nemo.

well, if people don't want to read or play a game because of historical reference, I agree. That is why I don't understand the fuss when you can play games where slavery and other not so pleasant stuff is involved. That is just the way it was, still you don't have to like it right?
