well, if people don't want to read or play a game because of historical reference, I agree. That is why I don't understand the fuss when you can play games where slavery and other not so pleasant stuff is involved. That is just the way it was, still you don't have to like it right?

Yep. We're playing a game where the whole point is to brutally stab and straight up murder human shaped pixels, but some are getting bent out of shape over killing animal shaped ones.

It boggles the mind.

I don't like the killing animals bits in Ubi games, but somehow I do enjoy rescuing animals in MGS V, even though it's exactly the same gameplay, but with tranquilizers instead of bullets and extraction balloons instead of skinning the animal. I think it's because I feel less connected to an indiscriminate animal murderer.

But murdering human beings on a mass scale in either game is all good, amiright?

One could argue that humans can be 'good', 'neutral' or 'evil', whereas animals are 'neutral'. From that perspective, killing a neutral animal is morally more objectionable than killing an evil human. :) The 'flowchart' becomes: killing is always bad and killing humans is always worse than killing animals, except when the human is evil. In this specific case the killing is morally good.

Of course, one could argue that thinking in such black&white terms is childish at best, and that bringing morality flowcharts to a game is silly too, but hey. :p

Meant to download this and then totally forgot about it over the weekend, I'll have to get onto it when I get home from work!

Trigger warning: I will be harpooning things. In the face.

Just an update for anybody who's interested - it's still available, from 18th to 23rd December now. World in Conflict complete edition (classic 2007 RTT/RTS game) and Watch Dogs (middling action/adventure game from 2014) are also available for free during the same period. They'd already given World in Conflict away earlier this month before the original AC4 offer started.

Awesome! I'll update the OP. :)

This game's a lot of fun. It does get a bit old, but it took a chunk of time to get there so that's OK I suppose!

The ship combat is nicely done. As are the shanties. :)

I've gone back to playing the latest one - Origins. For whatever reason it wasn't quite gluing with me when it released. Anyways I've found some time here and there to start a new game and see how it goes. So far much better. Its definetly the strongest game in the series by a tad over Black Flag. Mostly because they have made some effort to hide the Open World Homogeneity that plagues open games especially ubisoft open world games.
