Assign Crew... How?

My google fu has failed me.

I have 2 crew members. I have 2 fighters. Getting the crewmembers in the fighters, however, seems impossible.

I can select the fighters. My only options are "details" and "launch". When I launch, It's just me piloting the fighter and now nobody's piloting my ship.

I can select the crewmembers. My only options are "details", and that only brings up a bio.

So. How the hell do I assign these r tards?

Aha. I see! Thanks! So if I can't take two fighters at once, is there any advantage to the larger fighter bay?

I may be wrong as I haven't tried but I think you can take more than one fighter and crew but can only use one at a time, handy if one gets turned to space dust!

Basically, fighter bays can 3D print a limited number of new fighters, but it takes time. If you have two equipped and your fighter blows up, you can immediately deploy another.

You can hire 3 crew members but only one can board your ship. What i find a little strange is that when claiming vouchers all 3 want their piece of the cake although 2 of them just bummed around in the station and didnt help fighting + they 2 dont get rank progress... So what is the sense in hiring more than one?

You have to assign crew members to slots through the crew lounge before they become available during flight

Oh crap... So you can't assign a crew member to anything unless you're in a station??!?

-- says the CMDR half way to the Crab Nebula...

That's... broken.

You can still use the SLF, the mothership will run on basic autopilot commands. You only really need the active crew member if engaging in Combat, not something you'll see out at the Crab Pulsar.

You can hire up to three crew to be on call at all times to get in your ship. You pay them all to be on retainer. They all get a cut of all money you make. There are some very rich crew members out there.

You can only tell one crew member at a time to get on your ship and come with you.

There is an advantage to ranking-up newb crew members, through combat experience in your ship, rather than just hiring very skilled pilots, because the ones you rank up will be cheaper for you, at the higher skill ranks.

You can have more than one on retainer, so that you can train and groom several advanced crew members in case you lose one. Grooming extra crew members is (can be...) expensive.

But, yes, you have to be in a station to tell one of your "consultants" to get onto your ship or get off your ship. You can't just be half way across the milky way and send a message saying, Hey Carla, I need you in this telepresence seat NOW. Similarly, you cannot boot them off your ship into the middle of space when you are between docks.

It's obviously not broken once you realize how it works. You also can't purchase and install new guns while in the middle of space between docks.

I'm just getting into combat with my Keelback and fighter bay. Crew is great fun.

The ship will pilot itself well while you are in an SLF (ship-launched fighter) if you don't go zooming too close to planets. Careful with the crappy autopilot around planets.

EDIT: I found the "wording" where it indicates new hires are "left" in the crew lounge by default...

You can have one NPC and then crewed players piloting the other SLFs. I've had one npc and one crewed player in my SLFs at the same time. But in theory if you had the bigger hangar you could fill as many SLFs as you had spare seats on your ship.
