Asteroids

How do I scan asteroid belts?

Asteroid belts? If you are talking about the ones close to stars, forget about them.

To scan planetary rings -

Live version = Fit a Detailed Surface scanner, this will tell you the composition of the rings (and if pristine/depleted etc)

Update rolling out next Tuesday - Launch probes at the rings

Asteroid belts come in two forms, clusters and rings... the clusters you basically select each one, and you scan it by being close enough and pointing your ship at it, assuming you have a scanner onboard.

Rings, you can do the same to, if you have a surface scanner onboard, it will tell you what type the ring is, you simply scan the hose planet and can see that information in the system map.

However, coming on Tuesday, this changes. You will have to scan the clusters in your Full System Scanner, and in the case of rings, you do the same, which gives you basic type information. With the patch you will also get a probe launcher as part of the surface scanner which allows you to launch a probe into the rings which will give you hot spot locations.

Sadly, this is the case.
Would be nice if there was some unique gameplay attached to them.

Make asteroid fields great again! :p (um, well, maybe not 'again', since they were never great to begin with)

Scanning asteroid belts (or highlighted clusters) also doesn't benefit your explorer rating. You can find miners there but nothing special else.

well, starting next week, you can find asteroids in them that you can blow up.

Next week? Man I've had that gameplay for about 30 years.
