At least wait to play powerplay before writing negatively about it

This happens with every patch. A million things are changed and inevitably people go bananas over one of them. Remember the at times hysterical "OMG the Python is totally useless now!" debate? Now we have the 90% module resale thing ("OMG ED is doomed, noone can ever outfit anything ever anymore!"). A few reasonable suggestions are being made (keep the 90% resale price but allow people to store rather than sell reduandent modules, for example) plus a huge ammount of melodrama. In other areas it appears more meaningfull critique is being voiced, with some actual ideas for improvement. Just wait, FD will probably make some consession or other and before long noone will even remember what the problem was again. I also expect, based on the previous patches, 1.3 will come with some silly bugs that will get squashed in the daily updates following the release of 1.3. After that things will stabilise and we're left with a better ED and a thirst for info on 1.4. :D

Amen.

I can only partially agree with the OP.

Yes, most of the new stuff is too complex to discuss in a qualified way, until you've tried it yourself.

But some of the things are just simple facts, i.E. decaying reputation, 10% sales penalty (without module storage) on gear, black markets shown on galaxy map etc.

You don't really need to see those for yourself to form an opinion about it and discuss/criticize it.

Besides, the 1.3 beta forum provides a lot of detailed information about the 1.3 content. Filter the obvious overly positive and overly negative posts out, and you'll get a pretty accurate

impression of the content....enough to at least discuss it.

indeed... every new stuff is engulfed in a tide of negativity, often from people who dont know what they are talking about. then everyone gets it and we move on...

Right, I don't need to play the beta to be able to figure out that with the 10% tax on module refitting it will cost me nearly 300,000 Cr to switch from the exploring loadout to the combat loadout on my Cobra.

Agree with you there the 10% tax will make a huge difference without even playing beta you can realise that. Funny thing is I always assumed there was some sort of penalty when selling back modules.

What would be nice is if you could play around with the outfitting and then confirm all the pricing at the end? Seems a bit silly you have to go to an external website to check your outfitting before committing to it.

I assume they have implemented the 10% tax so that it is more worthwhile having ships for specific jobs, an ASP for exploring, a Vulture for combat, a type-7 for trading etc. As before you could just outfit whatever ship you had for the next job.

What is it with people who haven't got beta access to powerplay yet they post on here about how bad it is or how disappointed they are with it having only read the change log!

The change log to me looks awesome and cannot wait to play and give it a go.

Please wait for the full release before reviewing a product you haven't even played yet!

Some people can't help themselves...

The reason is that there's a stomach bug going around in the Elite community. A whole lot of people bellyaching just to bellyache.

I'm waiting for 60$, or is it 70$ dollars of "video game". On a value basis this game is comparatively overpriced...but this was moreless known to be "made up" with significant content updates leading into paid expansions.

Which leads me to anticipate these "pre-paid" content updates with great criticism.

People paid good money so have the right to speak their mind about what they bought. the age range of people posting here is likely quite large (mature people reading imature peoples comments) So what is weird is complaining about people complaining...what's the bother? Less your ED feelings are hurt from those stabbing negative comments...from people of an age group with comparatively little forethought.

Food analogy theme contribution. Your order a surprise 4 course dinner and paid "above average money" for it upfront. Only the salad was good, and turns out the other 3 courses were variants of the original salad...WHERE'S THE BEEF? lol I'm still hungry for more! Salad is just not satisfying enough, it's too "shallow" a meal, and having more of it or having it tossed differently doesn't add that sense of feeling "full".

I paid to feel full, and this game so far is just salad appetizers, but fancy looking ones. lol

I want to feel like I'll never "grind" my way through to the end of a steak, not I'll never "grind" my way through to the end of this salad.

ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME!!!!

I'm pretty sure one of the devs commented that you can fit a module and then change it without any penalty as long as you don't leave the outfitting screen. Of course, pre 1.3 beta, if you sold your ship without selling all the modules first and swapping to the lowest grade fixed modules then you took the 10% hit anyway.

I wonder how many people were doing this anyway?

The fact that this forum has an older demographic, but has more whining and screaming than half of the forums I go on that have much younger demographics, I think speaks a hell of a lot of volumes.

Hats off to the mods for not just outright banning everyone who ever posts.

Back on topic though, Power Play looks like a very very good addition to the game. Yes some of its mechanics need tweaking, being able try stuff out near the station and being able to resell your equipment with no loss for example as a try before you buy'. Or more fair distributed power play awards.

Despite these tweaks being needed however, you'd have to be insanely inside your own anus to somehow see the game as 'going backwards'. We have awesome new drone mechanics that are a great initial improvement for mining and rescue missions, an actual political system that will shape systems, two awesome new ships, a host of much needed bug fixes, missions that actually pay you decent money with a framework for their expansion, very good new AI changes making the game more fun and dangerous in both solo and open play etc etc

If you really want Frontier to not toy with things and bring us cool patches, even if flawed (like all releases are), without an endless tirade of rather than constructive feedback endless vitriol, then please go play pioneer or oolite instead.
