At what plane do you typically travel?

I don't believe in "typical" when exploring :)

Right now I'm about 2000ly above the central plane of the galaxy heading home from the core. Nice view ^^

I was level with Atese when I left populated space, but find I've drifted up to -102 on my way to Lagoon.

I notice that when if I don't pay attention I tend to drift upwards. I'm not sure if its the way the Galaxy Map is or the way I use it, but after a couple of several hundred light year routes I need to consciously course correct back down towards the meat of the spiral arm.

my plane tends to be vertical rather than horizontal. it seems every new destination on the map is either way above me, or way below.

II don't really pay attention to that all that much. I have been making my way to SagA by way of the Great Annihilator in 1,000 LY "fastest" sections so far. Sometimes the plots have me heading up and sometimes down. Once I get to the BHs, I plan to head up or down to a neutron cluster and scan until I get bored but neither up nor down makes a big difference to me. :)

My current plan is to stay above +1000ly for as long as there are enough stars there. So, I am up there on purpose. :)

I tend to stay near the plane when on the rim or between outer arms to keep the density up. Otherwise, towards my target

I know, but I'd rather have X,Y as the galactic plane and Z as the perpendicular so that's what it is in my head. I may or may not remember to change it when talking to other people for reasons of clarity...

It's quite a significant error when it comes to coordinates ;)

If you tell someone to meet you in sector 10,2,-950 and get the Y and Z coords mixed up you'll both end up thousands of Ly away from each other (I know that won't be the case in ED, as we can select systems - it's more a matter of principle).

That's when I'll make sure I use the common convention for clarity. Plus I'll be reading it off the map and get it right, even if it's an X,Z,Y in my head and not an X,Y,Z...

I have somehow settled on -1250 on my last 2 deep trips. My last trip, the last system before heading back, was -1760 -1249 18260 :) , so it translated to(looking from SOL to the Core), to the left and below, 18000LY towards core

I'm another with no typical up'n'downy plane (see I know all the technical lingo).

Going to Sag A I was all over the place from -1000 to +700 or thereabouts. Going to the downy neutron fields I gradually headed down to -1700 and gradually headed back up on the way home (which is at -142).

My current trip I'm at +78 but not paying much attention to the coordinates, I'm just heading that-a-way for a while. I'll probably turn right after another two or three thousand light years, unless I get distracted before that.

I have no idea where I am in co-ordinate notation. I started off ten days ago to visit the Crab Nebula and got distracted. Still haven't got there. :)
