At what plane do you typically travel?

All over the shop!

Which brings me to my question of how can I find out of my current co-ordinates?

I only discovered today that you can enter co-ordinates in to the route planner!:eek::eek:

Regards

You need to have "Show Grid" selected in the GalMap Options page.

What format do we need to enter in the search bar for the co-ordinates? I can't get it to work!

Coordinates? What the... seriously?

I had not a clue. I never paid attention to the coordinate system before, but I guess its there for a reason. I wish they had informed us this somehow.

Like telling us the "HOME" button takes us back to our current location ?

two things learned today - there's a function attached to the Home button ?! (is that next to the "Any" Key ?)

On my way out I travelled as high as I could get but settled on about +1200 - now on my way back on -1070

//Goes off to try typing co-ords into the Nav tab......

No you're right
You can enter galactic coordinates in the search bar to find systems etc in the map

That's good to hear! :)

You need to have "Show Grid" selected in the GalMap Options page.

Haven't tried it but I would follow this: -

Galactic map co-ordinate system : X,Y,Z e.g. -500, 200, 6562
First number is the lateral position(left/right) on the map
2nd number is height(up/down)
3rd is depth(from nearest to the civilisation bubble, to the core and beyond)
0,0,0 is SOL

Will try it tonight!

I have no idea where I am in co-ordinate notation. I started off ten days ago to visit the Crab Nebula and got distracted. Still haven't got there. :)

I set off at the end of January to visit Heart and Soul, still 900ly away and, after many distractions, approaching from the far side to inhabited space...

Anything from -1000 to -2500 all the way to the core. Returning home I am slowly climbing on the way back. Presently at -600 until the bug bites and then I'm off like a scalded cat running after a dormouse at the slightest curiosity.......blink and I'm back at -2000 again :S

This thread caused me to do a bit of experimentation. I went down 1 Kylie and found a really decent density of ns and wd, not enough to bore, but enough to keep the income high. It takes a little longer than at the centre, and ELW are even rarer, but I think I prefer it.
So far following an arm for 20 Kylie or so it has been pretty consistent

What else did you think the numbers were for? It really didn't need explaining.

On a jet plane. Don't know when I'll be back again.

Leaving on a jet plane. Don't know when I'll be back again...

And I'm usually Z -1250
Galactic coordinates are clearly X,Z,Y
X being left-right
Z being up-down
Y being coreward-rimward

It's why I give out coordinates alongside system names in the same format Galaxy Map gives them.
