Attack the sensors?

Am I right in seeing that with destroyed sensors you wouldn't be able to dock?

If so, it seems that any core component destroyed in a fight renders the looser dead in the water in the long run. FSD, engines, power plant, sensors...

Wouldn't it be more interesting if one still had options in such cases? Granted - any fight is lost when such a component is destroyed, but I think in certain cases there should still be hope.

Broken engine? Call for a space tow / repair (high price + wait time). Broken sensors? Perhaps use lights to request emergency docking with the station...

What do you guys think?

PS. No, I didn't get my sensors blown up. I was messing with the power while outside of a station and had this realization... ;-)

i think i read that on reddit somewhere, but i can't confirm it, but then i suppose that what the maintenance repair kit may be for. Usually kept one equipped, but never bothered using it, or figure it out, kept in case someone targeted my FSD.

I sincerely hope that one of the features to be added soon(TM) will be some sort of distress call in order to get your ship towed to the nearest station that can perform repairs (for a fee, of course). Atm most notions of "destroy their subsystem XYZ first" are, for the victim, equivalent to death anyway. Probably the only core subsystem you can have completely knocked out and not be stranded in space is power distribution; anything that goes into hardpoints or internal compartments is per definition optional anyway, but none of these usually matter enough to become a desired target (when was the last time someone on these forums said "target their shield generator first"?), and all subsystems that are desirable targets either blow up the ship anyway, or force the victim to self-destruct. :(

Maybe a way around that would be to individually shield the critical systems, even when shields are down (and recharging) but if the shield generator takes enough damage those sub shields also fail.

They are going to improve the current auto fabricator maintenance thingy to be able to repair any component except the power distributor. It will be able to repair sensors, drives, fsd, almost everything.

It won't be able to repair canopy or the hull %.

With that in place I doubt you'll see them implement a distress beacon/tow trucks, though that would be fun.

I would be for the distress call thing if it could only be answered by other players. Hit distress and take your chances. Other than that and it's too care bear.

Speaking of sensors, has anyone tried to destroy them on an Anaconda? If they are not too difficult to hit, it may change the game entirely since most Anacondas are armed with lots of gimballed/turreted weapons.

A PC or NPC Anaconda?

Blowing them on another CMDR means they still get to shoot at you manually (if they can find you and track you, that is).

Possible future career option:Interstellar Towing Services and Planet-side Repairs? Tractor beam back to nearest Station, if we can't get you fixed on the road! Sounds like fun.

That actually does sound like fun. You could have cargo units that have auto field repair units to deliver to hobbled ships, with a bounty system to reward the activity based on distance travelled / units used. That way you wouldn't have to worry about player to player economy etc. I would do that.

Remote pilot repair drone that takes up a cargo unit also gives the ability to add an external view camera. While in use the repair ship would be immobilized etc.

You can land just fine without sensors - if you know by heart which pad is which.

edit: ...except that you can't request docking. Had to go and try with sensors switched off... Oh well.

No, no contacts without sensors so no docking request.

Yea, right you are. Had to go test myself with sensors off to check the case. Sans that important fact you mentioned it's doable though (if you just could get request done---). Makes me wonder a bit whyever docking request is tied to sensors... shouldn't per se have anything to do with them.
