Attention Pirates: Create the Pirate code of conduct for ED

http://piratesonline.wikia.com/wiki/Pirate's_Code

Here's a starting point. It would be great to adapt this to our own Universe and therefore establish a code and even language to live by in Elite Dangerous. Anyone who doesn't follow the code isn't a pirate but a cutthroat murderer. Honour amongst thieves as they say.

A Pirate may not fire upon a CMDR immediately on encounter
A Pirate must initiate comms with the opening line "Arrr...what ye be haulin'" (clearly needs work lol)
A Pirate must allow for three attempted comms exchanges where there is no reply met. On the third attempt a single warning shot against the ship is permitted.
If after all three attempts to initiate comms with the target have failed, a pirate may engage the target with the intention of forcing a cargo drop, not destruction.
A Pirate must carry a Cargo Scanner and Cargo Hatch Limpet
A Pirate must wear the pirate faction paint job (where available) or a red coloured paint job
A Pirate should use the approved pirate lingo to remain in character (optional)

I would love for this to happen, but we already know that most of the players playing as 'pirates' are cut-throat murderers. We also know that every player assumes that every 'pirate' is a cut-throat murderer.

Excellent idea Commander. An honorable pirate I may not fire upon, but cutthroats and murders will taste the might of my Imperial lasers.

Yep, hence putting this in place will at least give the real pirates their reputation back, plus traders might feel a little safer knowing they're not going to get blown up on sight without a demand. For example, all pirates must fly with a pirate paint job and initiate comms with the same opening greeting (obviously dependent on FD giving every ship the option to fly the Jolly Roger)

There some good pirates out there which have good code of practice and roleplay really well...but also the same should apply to vigilante have go hero's who take up policing as well as there are some idiots in that role... I'm a trader who see s the best and worse of both

I think the Pirate skins are the only ones that cover most of the ships, which shows how much FD value Pirates as a valid career choice. :)

I look forward to seeing the pirate code in game.

Sadly, the existence of a "code" will not allow the trader to be sure of anything at all with respect to an encounter. The lack of any, visible to the target, pirate "statistics" make any encounter an exercise in guesswork.

Applause for the initiative though. :)

Great, can`t wait to get my hands on those "pirates"... You know why the russian mafia is so successful? Because they behave like a bunch of cutthroat-murderers and not like some emo-eyed-hippie "pirates".

You missed the point by such a margin, I think you've left a groove in the ceiling.

Ah ya scurvy dogs!

I like the idea, but in true it won't work.

From the point of interdiction someone will instantly (or as soon as possible) fire up their FSD drive to escape, so talking just gives them time.

How about if you are interdicted by a pirate you drop cargo.....

As a pirate I kindly request cargo and then open fire, no cargo means no quarter.

Putting the "Dangerous" into "Elite" :)

We should do the same for trader :

- After an interdiction, wait for com
- Don't use engine, don't move, don't FSD, don't deploy hardpoint
- If you don't comply, you accept to be attacked
- Of course, don't log off
