Attention Pirates: Create the Pirate code of conduct for ED

A Pirate may not fire upon a CMDR immediately on encounter
A Pirate must initiate comms with the opening line "Arrr...what ye be haulin'" (clearly needs work lol)
A Pirate must allow for three attempted comms exchanges where there ..............

The rest is just noise as the next line from the pirate would be

"Whoosh were did he go" as the target FSD cooling period ends

Limpets are pointless against commodities traders. With them, it's drop the cargo willingly or die. I'm not interested in 6-7 tonnes spread over a 3km trail. Much more interested in 20-30t in a nice scoopable bunch. If somebody doesn't comply, it is often not long before the next one turns up.

If the other guy doesn't have anything to lose (ie. we're trying to force cargo rather than "drop or die") then who is ever going to willingly drop cargo? Also, three attempts to communicate before a "warning shot". The target will be long gone, even if you mass lock them.

Needs work. For me, as soon as the trader charges their FSD I'm prepared to kill them. I'll try hard not to desroy them if I think I can still get them to cut engines and drop cargo, but an FSD charge puts me on the clock, so I've not much time for mercy.

I don't like it.

With the submit cooldown as it is, sometimes you might need to go the shock and awe route. Which means you aren't going to send 3 messages and wait for a response.

Forcing pirates to pay 5$ (on each ship he flys!) On the pirate skin, To be considered a reputable pirate is a no-no.

Also you forgot the most important parts, if the agreed upon amount of cargo is dropped the pirate must cease fire and allow the trader to leave. A pirate must scan for cargo first before attacking(isn't required on interdictions after the first)

If only there was a pirate group already extant, that followed some kind of 'code'. That would be most marvellous.

Look upon my sig, ye mighty traders and despair.

In response I will from now on carry this message in my clipboard:

Shiver me tribbles, a gentlemen pirate.
Don't shoot good Sir, I am but a humble explorer
I have only data in my hold which is too complicated for your oafish ways
Please let me be on my way

That might not work if we get a credit transfer system. 15k or you're dead! !!!

One of the basis for Piracy of old, was working for ones self, beholden to no one and most especially not following rules imposed upon them by others. So even if everyone on the forums adopts this code, it is only a small percentage of the people who are doing it in game. Also, there are people who say Yea here, and Nay in game. Then there are the people that will do whatever they want with no concern for anyone else.

I think that if you do Pirate with some code of honour, like you have suggested, then you should be known as an Honourable Pirate, or Gentleman Bandit. My preference would be the later. The ones who interdict and kill without discretion are just murderers and criminals. I think there should be a way to mark them in game as such. Able to mark them wanted for what? Would be a nice addition to know why the person is wanted. Would make a difference

Being wanted for accidentally shooting authorities in the heat of battle while trying not to die after being jumped is not the same as killed people for no reason. Problem is the game makes no differentiation.

But unless there is a mechanic, no one will know if the person on the other end is an indiscriminate killer, or a gentleman bandit. Assume the earlier, hope for the latter but don't count on it.

Gentleman Bandit or Dandy Highwayman ? ;)

Anyone who doesn't follow the code isn't a pirate but a cutthroat murderer.

Why does everyone need a box? Sometimes I might behave like a 'pirate', sometimes like a murderer, sometimes like a friend and sometimes like a fool - just depends how I'm feeling and if I like you... I'm just out there to have fun...

Pirate code:

1) I propose that a Pirate does not communicate with his victim unless he feels like it.
2) A Pirate can open fire or not whenever he feels like it.

Trader code:

1) A trader can run, submit or fight whenever he feels like it whether the Pirate communicates or not.

These codes have the advantage that:

A. They would actually work.
B. Everyone would know what to expect.
C. It's what actually happens now and what would happen anyway whatever code is adopted.

Will not live by it until the game gives way for it to be feasible.
These include fixing:
- Limpets from never connecting with an exploiting trader who constantly turns his ship
- Combat Logging
- Submitting for stupidly reduced FSD cooldown

You will be fired upon until your shields are removed and your cargo hatch has fed out cargo voluntarily or otherwise.

Having a code is pointless, many of us already follow a code and the ones that don't never will lol you can only be responsible for your own actions

In what way is attempting to avoid a limpet by moving one's ship an exploit? It's almost as if there is an expectation that the trader should simply stop in space to let the pirate plunder their ship....

Couldn't you just have ;
1) pirates must have a bounty scanner
2) pirates cannot fire upon ships with a bounty
3) pirates can assist other pirates for a share of the spoils
4) pirates paying off their bounty are fair game
5) everyone else is fair game :)

This way pirates approaching someone ain't gonna go um is he a pirate I can't see from here as if they have a bounty they are automatically safe

I never wanted to be a pirate until I saw the YouTube Vids people have uploaded, I never realised being a pirate was so much fun :) :)

i'm to get a pink pirate outfit and when I get back i'll be tugging you out of supercruise

right i'm off to practice my Aaarrgghh

If someone stopped me and asked "Arrr...what ye be haulin?" I'd drop a few cans of Palladium just for the sheer comedy value!

its a bug, once the limpet reaches a certain distance from a ship it instantly zips to the bottom to then attach, rolling makes it constantly recalculate where the bottom is and zip round at immense speed lol. Limpets are already a bust vs point defence, and are slower than almost every ship anyway. Which is a shame as they are one of the coolest things in the game by far :(

ARRRRRRRR! Nice suggestion, OP. I do all of the above already.

Thar be one exception, though. If ye run, an keep runnin', I'll kill ye dead I will. Marks need ta learn thARR place.

No striking one another during an engagement, but every man's quarrels to be ended in an anarchy system, at laser and cannon.

Here's your Pirate code.
