Attention Whoever at FDEV Is Responsible for Marketing & Communication

I do - but when I least expect it I come barrelling round the corner and do something deadly to myself

Ehhh. except if you want to play in open you can be attacked and destroyed by a wing of pirates. Your progression disappears because you lost your precious cargo, you lost your ship because your credit is tapped out.

Boom ... you are PK fodder in a Sidewinder again... your efforts are wasted, you are nothing.

sry offtopic...

An argument that can go to the end of time

Is what you have described the games fault or your fault?

It's because of that Tom Cruise line in Top Gun.

---

OP, are you salty because you were complaining about Open in a thread, and people used ED's name as an argument? Open is dangerous, though.

Dear FDEV's Marketing & Communication Department,

Please find a little time in your busy schedules to do the following:

  • Place a prominent page somewhere on your web site and on the forums with the following information:

  • Origin of the name "Elite: Dangerous"

  • FDEV's vision of the game.

  • A clear definition of what the game is

It's a sandbox game where no definition is required or needed, and the origin of the name is irrelivant to such. And all the quotes you listed are just people having fun with telling people that the game IS dangerous.. and it tells you so, right there in the title.

This thread is stupid.

Dear FDevs,

Please don't waste your time making web pages and announcement texts with information you obviously aren't ready to share.

Please spend your valuable time on bringing more and more to this most excellent game (especially persistent npc contacts) ;) .

Thanks.

I concur. p

Though, I find asteroids and space stations to be the most dangerous things in the game according to anecdotal player death statistics. Other Human players take a much further 4th place behind npcs.

Can mods close threads that they just find stupid? would be nice.

I know I shouldn't be replying to this, however..

I wasn't complaining about open.

Regards.

I think you just proved my case, once again :)

I know you're satisfied with the game as is, and like you I'd also like the devs to spend the time, y'know, devving. :)

Trouble is, there's a lot more to publishing a game than just development. There's these pesky critters called customers too.

Lastly, I suspect FDEV also have people other than devs. People involved in marketing, for example. And I've heard rumours there's even a Community Manager. :)

Egregious death penalties stifle engaging game play my good man. Enabling (as a core tenet of game mechanics) one player shafting / pirating another (griefing) that's the game's fault. Taking part in my own torture, that's my fault as far as goes as long my eyes are wide open on the way in. .... Wheres my cargo ?

Unfortunately what was requested would make absolutely no difference to the game now or in the future. Therefore it would be a waste of anyone's time, no matter what department they worked in IMO.

No it isn't. OP Outlines some very specific and simple recurring misnomer that could be cleared up as a simple courtesy.

They could go ahead and explain the lore of why it's Elite: Dangerous.... you know the expansion of the pilots federation into a greater pool of pilots to meet demand for mercenary work ... or what ever it specifically is. Or they could say, it's "Dangerous" because you can expect Ironman progression mechanics, and egregious death penalties in a PvP based multiplayer environment.

It would stop or the recurring persistent complaints, and that would be a good thing for everyone.

The purpose would be to have something canonical to point to, to counteract mistaken ideas and misinformation. This in addition for the benefit of potential new customers unsure what the game is all about.

It would be one single web page with a succinct summary, we're not talking about an encyclopaedia here :)

Its only a death penalty if your tactics are wrong - the strong survive

It real should be ED Exceptionally Darwinian
