Audio: dynamic range options reversed?

I tried setting the Dynamic Range to 'Nighttime' for the first time last night. Previously I've left it on 'Normal'. I was a little surprised that the volume increased and by a not insignificant amount. I switched back to Normal and the volume decreased again.

I then tried 'Boost' ("for increased volume") and the volume seemed less than 'Nighttime'!

Am I missing something here or is this a bug?

All the volume sliders are on 100% (tried it at 60%, same results). No soundcard. Found during 1.1.04 but same in 1.1.05

No your confusing dynamic range with compression.. When its set to night time you dont have to turn up the volume as all the sounds are compressed and have ltd DR so they appear at low volumes.. Mormal means you can turn it up like its meant to be - when somethings LOUD its LOUD but normal things are quite in relation..

However they are still slightly borked - probably due to final pass filtering

Hmmm OK I think I see what you're saying. It just seems odd that if I want to switch from Normal to Nighttime I then have to turn the volume down to compensate.

FULL RANGE - mix optimised for high volume levels - means that you can crank the volume up on your output device and then being able to hear the full variety (full range) of every sound layers and effects in game.
BOOST - more compressed mix - gives you the ability to hear the richness of sounds in mid volume levels without loosing the more subtle sounds.
NORMAL - as stated.
NIGHT TIME - mix optimised for low volume levels - e.g. night time when you don't want to destroy your neighbors and yet have fun and being able to hear all of the sounds ;) (e.g. headset)

[Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong guys]
