Australia Pack: Two Issues

First off, I love this pack, it's a 10/10... best one they've made so far. Its amazing! BUT, theres just two small issues...

1. Kangaroo Walkthrough-Just change it... Okapis are ok for a walkthrough so these should be too. And it's just a realistic thing... and isnt this supposed to be a realistic game. I know these arent Eastern Greys (which are less aggressive) but ITS A GAME.

2. Koala Behaviors-Honestly I didnt think that they would pull this one off at all, so I'm suprised they did, but THEY NEVER SLEEP... is it that hard to make them sleep, every other animal in the game sleeps, and this one sleeps the most, so what the heck?! The part two of this I guess is the fact that they're not really in trees that much but I can live with that sorta.

Overall, other than that, it's a great pack! Cassowary is my favorite!

Koalas sleep the same amount as lions in real life. I don't really understand where this "sleepy koala" meme came from but it's not exactly rooted in fact. The koalas I saw at Edinburgh Zoo did anything but sleep. They were very active.

I also did not see koalas sleep yet, but they are all the time in trees and on climbing structures (not literally all the time, but mostly, which is understandable). So I can not really complain on that part.

As for kangaroos, I do not mind either way, I do not use walkthough habitats much for animals other than peafowls, but I suppose it would be nice for others. However when I see a male red roo standing straight, it is a bit intimidating, would not enter that habitat. :ROFLMAO:

From my experience guest do not interact with kangaroos as they can kick (literally) the out of a person. AND seeing the ones in game play with each other, it is definitely not safe for people to be in there with them. You said yourself it is supposed to be realistic, and this is.

If they want to be realistic, make Kangaroos walkthrough, and hey if you think they're dangerous, dont use them as a walkthrough then! It's just that Okapis and even Lemurs are walkthrough animals and that makes zero sense and is completely unrealistic. It's just a game. And maybe some people have some varying behaviors with the koalas. I just think that they should make them walkthrough for the (a lot) of people that want to make Kangaroo Walkthroughs in realistic zoos and for the people that think its "unrealistic" then dont use it then.

Here in Australia, every zoo I’ve ever been to has had a very popular kangaroo walkthrough. They are designed to have a guest path that weaves through a paddock, with rock piles, grasses, trees and small shelters for the kangaroos to move away from guests into. Honestly, there is rarely a bad interaction.

The only time I’ve seen someone get bitten (never seen someone kicked, but it has happened where I worked) was when a guest has followed a roo off the path and into the kangaroo only area. Roos will move away well before they strike someone. And if you do get an individual roo that gets a bit pushy (usually one who learns that threats = dropped food), you move him or her into a roo only yard with no guest access, but other animal friends. The frustrating this is watching people ignore the “stay on the path” signs and scare the animals. The fun thing is watching those people get humped by emus (very common, and hilarious).

Roo yards often include swamp wallabies, eastern greys, emus and sometimes koalas. I’ve been to three zoos with reds in a walkthrough and there are no issues at all. Walkthroughs often have geese too (to protect roos and wallabies from foxes). Of all species, the geese would be the ones I keep an eye on!

Such zoos here in Australia with Kangaroos in them didnt have many Red's, mostly greys and wallabies. Even then those that had Red's were mostly hand raised so are used to human contact.

Also, again Red male's wont back down if they feel threatened in the wild, they will stand up on their legs ready to kick out if they feel at all threatened.

Don't know about roos and okapis, but I've seen several walkthrough habitats with lemurs. They're usually pretty friendly.

Again yes its a game. However you want to be also talking about realistic behaviour. Red's are dangerous if not hand reared.

I made my lemurs walkthrough, but now and then one of the juvenile's got spooked and scared the lot, so took the walkthrough out and never got a spooked one again.

A walkabout with red kangaroos seems dangerous and unrealistic. Now we do have the anteater...even so, if a walkabout was added, I wouldn't use it. Besides, we might get greys or a wallaby species in the future. The koalas being active, well I think it wouldn't be a terrible idea to make them sleep more. The lions sleep a decent amount, but they don't feel too inactive, so maybe if koalas slept the same amount...

There are a lot of examples if Red Kangaroo walktrough exhibits, I really don't think it's that unrealistic.
On the other hand, I'm a bit disappointed that the pouches aren't actually being used, after that Developer Journal I was really excited to see the joeys using the pouch even after their birth.
An other thing that bothers me a bit is the Koala enrichment, it doesn't look bad, but I would prefer something more realistic for an European zoo, that would probably be just something like a trunk and not a living tree (I would be really happy if it could be the same tree, just without the leaves). An other thing I think would have been great would be a new sleep accommodation, which also could be the enrichment item (without that Eucalyptus bowl and a dead tree would be very nice too) and a new sleeping animation for the Koalas.
But still, I think it's by far the best DLC till now, even not liking everything of it.

I think there are Eucalyptus Species that can survive in temperate Areas. I think I did even see them planted outside somewhere

This is probably why red kangaroos are not ideal walk through animals. That combined with the force they can kick with is capable of killing a person.

I think you are right! But the pictures I've seen of Koala exhibits had mostly dead trunks (I think Zurich has a live one in their indoor exhibit, but that is more a exception). The international husbandry manual also talks about trunks, so I really don't know if it is common to use alive trees.
