Authentication error (posting here due to not getting that far with support)

Failed to authenticate with frontier servers, you know it, 8 horus of playtime and i still havent got in the main bloody menu. I could use some help please.
Methods i tried:

resetting network settings
disabling antivirus
clean boot
validating files

Thats what happens when we get 3'rd party account stuff like this.

It's a network issue of some kind, I suppose. But only FDEV support can actually help you. This is just a user forum.

Yeah i know, i do think some people might have experienced the same issue and maybe they got a different fix for it, worth a shot

Just a shot in the dark - many folks here mix up support with bug reports. The former will help you if they can - on the latter, the general opinion tends to be somewhat less friendly.

This one should cover the majority of issues at the stage you describe:

If not, scroll down to the (small printed) box labelled "send a support question" (or whatever that's called in your language - I only get to see the German one :-( )

Still leaves you with the problem that the top line on that page claims that support currently has a response time of ~24 hours.

If you want us to guess from afar - we'd need a bit more information. Starting with where you bough the game - Steam, Epic, FD directly, followed by the exact error message you get (or ideally, a screenshot of the error screen).
Mind, FD support will probably want the same.

That you're posting here on the forum is at least a (weak) indicator that in general internet access seems to be working on your end - but it still could be a router/firewall/AV issue.

Steam or epic, or what do you mean by 3rd party account stuff?
i mean the frontier accounts, i always had alot of problems from the games i bought from steam and made me create their own account. for example this thing or their site having issues making an account.
Have you tried logging out, then going back in again?
Yes i did. forgot to type it in.

Aaanyways lemme give a bit more info:
Bought from steam at the time the latest sale started.
Error message is:
LOGIN FAILURE
The game failed to communicate with the authentication server. Please check your internet connection and try again in a few minutes.

I had a weird networking issue the other night where the game kept timing out with transaction & authentication errors. Did a bunch of stuff at my end (rebooted PC, router). My sons PC was fine, still connected (not to ED), my PC was showing every indication of a flakey internet connection.

My PC uses DHCP & all the networking settings are automatic, his were manually set. I set my DNS servers manually to the google ones (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4) and everything was fine again. No idea why, nothing wrong in the house, I guess my ISPs DNS servers just had a glitch.

Chances are if there's a problem & it isn't affecting lots of people it's probably at your end (you or your ISP).

Diagnosing someone else's network is no easy task, but...

First start with your PC

Make sure it's updated

Then open an admin elevated CMD prompt window and run:

dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
sfc /scannow
chkdsk /f

If you see any errors repeat until there aren't any

If that's all good you're then ready to start looking at network issues. Riverside's suggestion is a good start.

Your issue could be anywhere from your network adapter settings to a problem at your ISP or anywhere in between. The complexity of your network will determine the scope of the task. ISP, your interface edge device/router, and any switches involved are all potential failure points.

The more precise info you provide, the more likely you will get intelligent feedback on recommended tests and potential solutions that might be helpful.

tried the scans, no luck, the network settings seems fine. i'll try to get more stuff from the support. thanks for the suggestions though

I get the same error you're showing once every three to four months.
The first time it happened, I worked with customer support for three days, trying all the other suggestions like what people have posted here, before they suggested a strange solution neither of us thought would work, that has fixed the problem for me every time it has occurred since then; delete GpuWorkTable.xml

Mine is located at: C:\Program Files\Epic Games\EliteDangerous\Products\elite-dangerous-odyssey-64\GpuWorkTable.xml

(replace "EpicGames" with "Steam\steamapps\common" in your case)

The game will automatically create a new file upon launch, so no need to worry about messing anything up.

This is like looking for your keys and opening the freezer just so you can say that you've looked everywhere, and there they are!
