Auto Field Maintenance Unit Longevity

I am in deep space and this unit has saved my ship more than one, thanks to ED devs and the gods for it. But now it's down to 74% integrity and was wondering at what point it will stop working? Would anyone know approx. when it can't repair anymore? Thanks to all and fly safe and keep the stellar winds to your back y'all. :D

Some like to keep two AFMUs, so one can repair the other. A choice might also be to modify one AFMU to be shielded, granting it more integrity points.

Thanks for the info! Now that I can stay in the black a little bit longer knowing it will work until my hopefully never screw up. Keep safe CMDR's.

There must be something wrong with me, or right.
Last time I took an AFMU with me, to Beagle point 65k LYs away as the crow flies(85k LYs with jumps) I never used it.

edit : I think I got there with over 85% in most modules.

Its these young uns.
Back in the day, you could cruise around the Galaxy with a 30ly FSD for years at a time and never need a AMFU or Heat Sink. Nowadays, these younguns take a 65ly FSD, Full Extra Ammo Heat Sinks, 4 AMFU and STILL need to dock at all those stations to repair just to get to Colonia.
Pffft. Grrrr.

Back to "The Grumpy Old Man" bar and grill for me.

Try neutron boosting most of your jumps all the way there and back.

I must be getting old...Ive been out 5 months, hull at 98% and I aint used the afmu once...bout 78 to 80% left on modules.

That being said, if one was using neutrons, one would bring 2 afmu and use them many times. And it stops working at either 0% or when it runs outta ammo...in which case ye just synth more. Taking two means one can repair the other...simples ^

Thats nothing. When I started in 1.0 you had to walk all the way to Sag A*, and we enjoyed it! :p

I never used to really need AFMU's, but now with neutron jumps I use them all the time.

It would be interesting though if severely damaged AFMU's had the chance to damage modules while repairing, "misfiring" so to speak, thus eating up a lot more ammo in the process. That would put a whole new spin on keeping your AFMU's in proper working order!

I have (powered down) AFMU's in ALL my spare slots in the ExplorerConda! The reason being, if you start taking module damage, it gets shared between every module you have randomly. Having the extra AFMU's on board act like low weight module reinforcements and have the added advantage of having enough repair capacity to repair a planet :p

Another interesting point. I did this when I first starting exploring, but only have 2 on board at the moment.
So far after being out for a year, I've only had one minor accident though.
