Auto Repair Unit doesnt do what it says on the tin?
don't ask how, I have no idea.
some NPC chancer in a sidey with what felt like twin rails got on my 6 and hit me a few times whilst I was tailing some juicy bounty.
radar was crazy with blips at the time, no idea who was friend or foe, system authority ships were in force too.
It didn't take much.
a few seconds and shields were offline!
thats when I knew I was being shot at by multiple targets, as there was no way my prey was hitting enough rounds to drop my shields.
I finished him off and put full power to sys, turned to face new target, the Sidewinder with twin Death Star Cannons.
one pass was all it took, dropped his shields, cut his hull down to 50%, but I took another round to my hull and all of a sudden im drifting!
like... how?
Hull still at 63%.
frantically checking modules, there it is in red: THRUSTERS 0%
*insert expletive here*
now what?
drift for a bit?
police chased off my would be assassin.
do the engines come back on after a while or what?
this has never happened before, so im left wondering, intrigued.
what if I had an auto repair unit?
yes, great plan, soon as i get back, i'll fit one.
but slowly it dawned, I wasn't getting back.
and neither was I gonna cash in the 100k of bounties.
I was gonna have to hit the self destruct.
paid the insurance, dumped the fuel scoop, fitted the Auto Repair Unit, and heard the crackle over the comms:
"hey bro, I think you better read the manual that came with that thing, says here they don't work on main thrusters..."
???
really?
why not??
if ever there was a reason not to fit umpteen shield booster units (ok, I only had one, and I never had to use it in nav beacons anyway, not getting hit seemed like a much better defence) it would be to fit a rather handy sounding AUTO REPAIR UNIT, right?
seems like, if we want to have ships that are fitted for combat, then repair units would make sense, right?
but if they don't fix the blown motor, then what is the point?
LOL
