AX Chieftain help

I haven’t fought the Thargoid, wanting to get back into the wonderful game I bought the AX pre Engineered Chieftain. I watched a load of fighting good type stuff and thought I would give it a go. The ones I watched avoided the swarm thing with the flak launcher. Ok, will swap the pylon torpedo…cannot be stored..what? But how do I fight the swarm bit? Ah there must be somewhere online where they show you….er no..remember I dutifully watched a load of YouTube (tedious advertising crap a constant irritation!) only to have bought a ship i’m not really sure what strategy to employ.
If I fit a flak launcher and get destroyed will my respawned ship have the replacement, the replaced or a choice of the above?
Have FD or anyone made a video to help with this ship? (I searched but not specifically relevant).

Also…Thargoid are proper scary in VR, brilliant!

I think if you replace modules on a prebuilt ship and then get destroyed, the ship offered in the rebuy will be fitted with your replacement modules, as it was when you exploded, and you will get charged for any modules that didn't come with the ship (at the normal 5% "insurance" rate).

I haven't personally tested this, so I hope if I'm wrong someone will correct me, but I'm pretty sure this is how it works anyhow.

I really want to get out in the Chieftain but get killed pretty quickly. I have followed countless youtube videos but none seem to refer to the build that the store sells. I would have thought FD would have produced some sort of repeatable livestream on how it works? All the videos I can find are of other builds so far.
I suppose my complaint is that whilst what I am looking for may be out there I have'nt found it and spent alot of time on what may be either irrelevant or outdated, I don't know what I am looking for!

Working my way through all the ax info but giving ax combat a whirl, not killed a cyclops yet but getting there…
I am confused by the lack of a flak launcher on the AXChieftain pre build, should I replace something on that build or am I missing something else.
Thanks again for your advice, am enjoying doing something different in the game. As with so much ED it’s a steep learning curve, but that’s the point!

first, try the protection of the spaceport, it is not needed there. In general, Flack is sold everywhere, this is not uncommon.

Generally the swarm destruction rig is practically useless, it's hard enough to get out of. And you can do it only if you are 1 on 1 with the enemy.
You can safely fight and in conflict zones in space, there these swarms are carried here and there and just do not pay attention to them.

Thanks again all, I am getting there. The convenience of the free rebuy has become apparent! I think its getting the muscle memory of the bindings, technique and requisite flying skills that are needed. Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

I know it's old, but for the sake of folks finding this thread through Google, like me, the above is correct. AND any engineering you do on the included parts (I engineered the included beam laser) will still be there when you rebuy (I blew myself up, just to test this), so definitely rebuy, don't just redeploy the stock ship for free. I engineered everything (except for the pair of 2B gauss cannons I added), copying the AXI meta build (I was well into the game and just bought it to save on rebuys while I learn to fight goids) and my rebuy is only like 26,000.
