Baby Carriers

Hey Frontier, I believe there's a subset of the players like myself who would like a much smaller version of the standard fleet carrier. Perhaps something that holds ONE large ship, TWO medium ships, and TWO small ships. Such a FC would cost less than the huge monster currently shown in your promotional videos, and it would act both as a stepping stone for newer players (just like our regular ships come in small, medium, and large), and it also offers something to veteran players like myself who just don't have any need for a huge personal fleet of ships. Because, to be honest, I have zero interest in the megacarrier currently being offered, but I could easily get excited about a "baby" carrier with a 1Lx2Mx2S configuration.

Just something to think about :D

Perhaps make fleet carriers modular so you can add extra hangar space as you go (so everyone starts with a small carrier with front and back with one hangar module and adds what they need).
Modular hangar compartment with a row of pads on it
Adding another section just extends the ship
no upper limit, just keep adding more and more sections until a flyby looks like the intro from spaceballs
go void opal mining and try to make the longest carrier
travel to colonia by docking at the rear hangar and transferring your ship to the front hangar

You talk about a new Saud Kruger? A "Blue Whale"? Maybe You can talk Rick into it ;)

I'm sure Rick would approve of something something more Saud Kruger.

Wouldn't it be wise to at least wait until FD tells us what the FC's are capable of doing, whether they are modular or not? Or is it better to start asking FD now to change things mid stream?

Stop looking for trouble where there is none. This is the suggestion section of the player forum, it's meant for threads like this. Now had I gone knocking on David Braben's door and demanded he give me my own personalized fleet carrier, then you'd have something to justifyably complain about.

You might be limited at some point by mass and thrusters if they ever gain the ability to move. Is there a weight limit to their type of jump drive?

And, hypothetically, they could let them move within the USS instance they warp into with normal thrusters.

Better to ask Before the final lick of paint dries... so yeah better now than later!
I too would like a pram, especially if it had the ability to cover ground at a rate that would make it really useful for exploration.

But the brutal truth is that we're only getting Fleet Carriers now because the assets were pretty much finished before FCs were cancelled in 2018, I strongly suspect because they were supposed to use new code that would have arrived with the 2018 paid update (and also been included with 3.3) but then disappeared along with that update.

I think the only significant new asset we've seen in the last year has been the Orthrus. I wouldn't pin any great hopes on seeing much more in the way of new stuff before the New Era launches or we all die of old age.

Good idea...

:)

I think the idea of customization is good. Although small ones could be nice also. It would depend on if they add effects from mass to the ship. Either thruster use in a USS instance from mass or jump range effects or fuel usage etc. mass could effect fuel if jumps are always up to 500ly. That is one way to effect it and balance it's use. The more mass the more fuel used per LY jumped.

If not it's purely cosmetic unless they add customization or other things like internals. All of which would be better.

What 2018 paid update. I don't believe they ever announced one.

But I do agree that probably a lot of the assets where already created, but there is no reason why more cannot be created to cater for more people especially if they can use some of the current assets as a basis.

I have no interest in a huge behemoth fleet carrier. I would like one that has 4 small pads and 4 medium pads. I don't fly later ships.

I like the idea of smaller carriers for cmdrs, if the large one was linked to squadrons and not every CMDR.

It seems weird how fdev changed this and opted to allow everyone a large carrier, it sits better that squadrons get the large ones etc

I'd just like FC's to appear in-game instead of just being the vapourware they have been to date, doesn't make any difference how big to me, I'd enjoy the opportunity to see just how useful they are, or not, easy :)

Well, it might just be (in a fantasy world) that FDev stopped the release and thought "wouldn't it be good if we had modular fleet carriers so players could choose how big they wanted them... within reason"
but I can't really see FDev thinks much at all... just goes right on with the plan with the occasional break for fixing bugs that affect sales.

Oh yeah, Happy new year FDev I do really mean it!
